Our time with our youth is already so short, we hit 30 and our bodies already start to decay, some unlucky ones lose their beauty to hairloss, weight gain or just get ugly in their 20s.

Also we need to normalize the AOC across the USA, a little less then 1/3 of the states actually have the AOC set to 18, most have it at 16 but no one seems to take that seriously.

That stance has nothing to do with youth or physical attraction. It's about mental and emotional maturity. Under very few circumstances is a teen just entering the adult world ready to start having children or making serious and permanently life-altering decisions, and it's far, far too easy for older men or women to take advantage of and manipulate people that young and who lack experience dealing with the real world.

Boy, if you think safe sex is still "too unsafe", I'd love to see your opinion on literally everything else. Driving a car? Even though there is only a tiny chance you get killed or maimed, it's still too unsafe! Better bump the age to drive to 32! Hiking? You might run into a bear! No one under the age of, I don't know, 27 is mature enough to make that kind of decision!

You're just touting off about "risks" in something you have 0 experience in. It's like watching Duncanwii talk

In our previous conversations on things you've been reasonable so it bothers me you are getting increasingly ad hominem.

Engaging in risky things doesn't give you more data than the actual aggregated data itself.

Again with something like Russian Roulette, you wouldn't say "look you may say it's 1 in 6, but you aren't engaging in it often, and these people are so they are the experts"

Are you disagreeing with the general sex stats out there about condom/pill/etc effectiveness? Or are you arguing that personal anecdotal experience trumps aggregated data?

If no to both then you are just trying to ad hominem attack my opinion by implying I'm inferior for not having sex. And that's kind of name calling style of argument is usually reserved for 14 year olds.

I'm sure you know that it's bad logic to say "this thing has never happened to me, so I can infer it couldn't have ever happened, nor will it ever happen". So the first hand experience is irrelevant because it doesn't negate the aggregated data.

It's not that hard to just have an honest discussion about it, but it seems nobody is willing to do that. Nobody is willing to say "yeah it's a 10 percent chance of a baby" or a 5% chance of an std, but whatever I don't care.

Instead they hand wave as if all these risks are negligible which they simply aren't by all available data.

Most people act like "all the risks are negligible" and then 10% of those people have unintended pregnancies or stds or whatever and then throw their hands up in the air and go "how could this have happened?" and everybody else goes "didn't happen to me! Others must not understand how safe sex works." And nobody is having honest discussions on the risks.

Even after all this time not a single person here has acknowledged that while engaging in "safe sex", risks of things like pregnancies and STDs are still like 5-20%. Just acknowledge it and say "yes that's a big risk but I don't care".

But lying and acting like the risk is 1 in a million is disingenuous

Conflating the risk of pregnancy wrt prophylactics and the risk of STDs is pretty disingenuous...

The risk of pregnancy with prophylactics or birth control is very, very low. With respect to STDs, if you know your status you can avoid trouble but you're right in that it's still a risk.

If you use condoms perfectly every single time you have sex, they're 98% effective at preventing pregnancy. But people aren't perfect, so in real life condoms are about 85% effective that means about 15 out of 100 people who use condoms as their only birth control method will get pregnant each year.

Some people consider "the pull out method" safe sex, and that has an even worse rate

For every 100 people who use the pull out method perfectly, 4 will get pregnant. But pulling out can be difficult to do perfectly. So in real life, about 22 out of 100 people who use withdrawal get pregnant every year

Let's go to "the pill"

If you use it perfectly, the pill is 99% effective. But people aren't perfect and it's easy to forget or miss pills so in reality the pill is about 91% effective. That means about 9 out of 100 pill users get pregnant each year.

So when people say "oh I do safe sex" the things they are talking about have like a 9-22% chance of creating a baby. Bringing a human life into the world. How can anybody in good conscious treat that as effectively 0%? Because that's what most people do.

On that page, you'll see the combined rate for perfect use of both methods is 99.99% effective the estimated combined rate of both methods used more typically is 98.8% per year.

That sounds like a pretty strong possibility to me.

Are you arguing most people use both condoms and the pill? Also are you arguing a 1.2% chance of a child per year is a negligible chance?

I very much doubt that everybody who acts like it's not a big deal is doing both.

And remember the stakes, it's a human life you are bringing into the world. It's comparable to rolling 2 dice and saying "ok if they are both 1's you now have a child you have to raise for the next 20 years that will change your life forever even if it's with somebody you just did a quick hook up with, but if not you can have 2 years of casual sex"

That's not a trivial choice, many people are going to roll those 2 1's.

And this is talking about the very best odds of people using both condoms and the pill.

"1 in 83 years" is not a good representation. I'm not even sure the math is right since .988^58 is under 50/50 meaning it's a coin flip by 58 years.

The important thing is that 1% chance things happen all the time. So it's not like "you can have relatively safe sex for 83 years". No 1.2% of people are going to get a pregnancy after just that 1 year. What makes it so you think it's negligible that you will be that 1%?

Of course, you might get the short end of the stick but that applies to everything including lightning strikes and the much more likely car crash which can result in permanent damage or death. At least with birth control failing theres still abortion. Its very irrational to be this worried about it.

1.2% is not negligible, and dying in a car crash has much lower odds than pregnancies. And sex is much more optional than driving. Finally odds of getting stuck by lightning are 1 in 700,000.

You must understand that 1 in 83 is much lower than 1 in 700,000.
