Considering you think 18 is super young...

It sounds like you haven't been in highschool for a longgg time.

A lot of teens have had sex earlier then that.

Joe your take on this is absolutely not a normal one

You sound like someone who thinks people shouldn't have sex until they're 25

That's not an unreasonable age. I mean it's always very risky so people should be much more careful about it regardless.

I know lots of people have sex way too casually, so I know that my thoughts might seem atypical to such people.

It's unreasonable to suggest people shouldn't pursue a natural instinct that develops through their teen years

If it can produce STDs or children that they are not prepared to raise then it is not unreasonable.

Just because something feels good or you have an instinct to do it certainly doesn't make it a good idea.

Yes because safe sex and protective measures don't exist

Semi-protective measures do exist but "safe sex" really doesn't exist. "Safer sex" does. But you can absolutely get pregnant even using a condom. Yet the way you talk (as do most people) they act like using a condom makes all the risks completely negligible when they very very much aren't.

...You said condoms don't prevent pregnancy. I'm telling you condoms aren't the only preventative measure against pregnancy.

Listen I'm not getting into this with you, you've already been explained this stuff in great detail in another topic. Point is that thinking it's weird for people to have sex before 18 is dumb and puritan to cringe levels.

And the other things don't prevent pregancy either. There are various rates of failure, and they are all non-zero.

But the way you dismissed me talking about std/pregnancy concerns by saying "safe sex is a thing" doesn't reconcile with how you pretty much acknowledge immediately that condom sex (which you presumably would call "safe sex") has a pretty large failure rate.

Look, I get it, most people like casual sex a lot and don't want to have a discussion about the possible consequences. I can understand the motivation why. Just personally I think it's irresponsible, and calling that opinion "cringe" or "outdated" doesn't really address anything on an objective level.

No. I am a person who has AIDS and does not have sex anymore (I am undetectable, I just dont want to have sex at this point in my life). But everyone understands and gets the basic ass points you are saying. No one here is unaware of the high school level sexual education you are touting as some unique wisdom. Its just really fucking annoying to see you repeating sex can give you STDS or bebe in every fucking god damn topic about sex.

If everybody is aware of it then why does everybody also hand wave it off with "condoms/the pill are a thing, don't be a prude, casual sex is awesome". If everybody knows that those precautions don't solve the problem I'm bringing up, then why does it seem like everybody acts like they do?

Because people aren't going to completely avoid it simply because it doesn't have a 100% prevention rate

There's a chance you'll get killed by a car or in a mugging just going outside. Might as well stay in the house permanently

People always go there too. "Some risk exists in everything, so not doing things because of risk is dumb."

But you know it's not dumb. We should concern ourselves with non-trivial risks. And the risk of pregnancy or STDs is far from trivial even using condoms or the pill.

When we are talking about bringing a human life into the world or catching an STD those are pretty big stakes, is it really "no need to worry" if it's a 10% chance?

We aren't talking about lightning strikes here, these odds are pretty high considering the stakes. I don't think a prudent person like yourself can hand-wave them away. And yet I see it all the time. I'm forced to assume that these otherwise smart people either 1. Know something I don't know (which I continue to ask but seem to get no evidence of) 2. Know the real risks and just ignore them because sex is so desirable that they don't want to think about it.

Jeez

Im glad you arent in power.

Our time with our youth is already so short, we hit 30 and our bodies already start to decay, some unlucky ones lose their beauty to hairloss, weight gain or just get ugly in their 20s.

Also we need to normalize the AOC across the USA, a little less then 1/3 of the states actually have the AOC set to 18, most have it at 16 but no one seems to take that seriously.
