I remember my folks and family using those 400 page foldout maps. The ones where ypu had to pull over and memorize your routes at the rest stops.

Mapquest gave us terrible step by step directions to get us in the area. Then we would call someone that actually knew where something was to get us the rest of the way.

God, I remember that weird middle time between no internet and GPS where we would print out step by step directions from Map Quest and hope we stayed on the right route lol

I remember how crappy MapQuest was. I remember my parents having the CD ROM of it.

Reading a map is easy and most major roads have signs giving distances and pre-warnings about turns. You're just not used to it, but it's not rocket science.

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

It's not hard on the open road so long as you know your general location, the road you're on and the direction your destination is.

Seriously I just drove from Indianapolis, IN to Flagstaff, AZ a few weeks ago and even with my GPS I made some wrong turns. I might just be an idiot though.

Its not too hard to know if you missed your exit...theyre numbered
If youre not on the highway/freeway Id just ask gas stations attendants for help to get back on track. They tend to know the areas well

Maps. Lol
You can't read a map cuz you don't have to. Had you been born earlier, you'd probably have learned to read paper maps.

I had a temp job once quick-delivering products that were being sold over the phone by some telemarketing company. They'd hire locals in whatever city they were calling because the locals had the knowledge of where things were in that city. These days they'd just have some traveling employees use Google Maps (or just use Amazon, but whatever).

When I drove cross country a few years ago, AAA printed out two or three books of directions to my destinations. I think if I'd known ahead of time how much paper they were going to waste, I would have just gotten some maps together combined with Google if I got really lost.

road maps, landmarks, and ask for directions

there's a reason the trope of men not asking for direction exists, it's a reference to this

Take the road down that way, yeah? You go down a scootch, and when you see the house with the green roof where the Mitchells used to live, you turn down the road over on the right and go all the way down till you see the place with the biiiiig ol' sycamore tree out front. Now, it's not that one, but the one two houses down, the one across from the dog that'll take a bite outta ya if you're not careful.
