Anyone get that sensation? The world is saying this is a time for anger and hostility and love for each other can take a back seat?

I'm talking about between each other, not the world at large. People are so riled up and looking for a fight that they're digging meaning out of things people say that isn't there, resulting in a reason to turn on them. I see it on here and Reddit constantly since this all started and I just want that to end. I want to be able to say what I mean and have it not be assumed it was said in bad faith.

But even as I post that with the intent of having it be seen as a neutral statement, scenarios rush through my mind of how someone can maliciously misinterpret it as being fueled by a desire to push unwanted viewpoints.

You are right, TC. I have been saying the same thing since this all started. People are actively using whatever they can find in order to hate the other side. Your statement is clearly very neutral and reflective but there are many here who will just assume you are some "alt-right troll" for even saying it.

Now is not the time for hatred and disdain, especially hatred and disdain that you go out of your way to create. All it does is create a larger rift between the two sides and make it more "us against them," which only leads to further escalation.

I have mentioned it in the past but everyone needs to read MLK's "Letter from a Birmingham Jail." If the greatest civil rights leader of our time denounces hatred and violent responses, maybe that means something? He pretty much described exactly what is happening now, except in this instance the police are playing the role of white people and the general population is the black community. As anyone who has read a lot of what he wrote will tell you, if MLK were alive today, he would be ashamed of the way people are acting in the name of equality and fairness.

"I have tried to stand between these two forces, saying that we need emulate neither the "do nothingism" of the complacent nor the hatred and despair of the black nationalist. For there is the more excellent way of love and nonviolent protest. I am grateful to God that, through the influence of the Negro church, the way of nonviolence became an integral part of our struggle.
