Its really strange why people care so deeply about it, considering theyll be the first ones to say that bad parents should have never had kids in the first place. If you dont want kids, youll end up being resentful of a life without them.. and then be a bad parent

I felt the same way, once.

I was utterly resolute. I loathed and abhorred the thought of having children. Then, after a great deal of work on myself and after becoming older, I realised that somewhere along the way, my attitudes towards children had changed.

That is not to say that you shall change your mind, but do not leave yourself closed to the possibility.

I dont hate children, though. And I feel like I have a different perspective considering I raised my siblings for most of my life. I have a good idea as to what it takes, and its not something I want. I would love to volunteer to be a mentor for disadvantaged children though. I never had that growing up, and I think that it would give me the purpose I need

Also, another reason people love to give me is "well, you'll have no choice, since all women want to have kids"

Not saying this is a good or bad thing, but if more woman had that mindset the human race would be in serious trouble to say the least.

I think the human race would be in a better place, actually. If those who didnt have the maternal instincts, as you say, chose not to have kids then there would be less abused children. Children would be treated like a gift, and be wanted if the only people having them actually really wanted them. The world population is rapidly expanding, so everyone having kids isnt necessary anymore.

Yep thats definitely not true. Ive talked to a lot of women who dont want kids either. I honestly think the number of childfree folks are mostly equal for both sexes

In the case of people with kids, it's because they're subconsciously miserable, they refuse to acknowledge it because society says hating that you have kids is wrong, but it's there, they hate that they have to watch over some screaming little primate that does nothing but eat, shit, and inevitably destroy everything you own, and because of that they can't do anything. Now, since they can't get rid of the screaming pain in the ass, that would be everything from illegal to socially stigmatizing, they decide the best way to handle it is to talk about how fucking great it is and how it's their life's purpose and convince everyone around them to have kids, that way all their friends are just as miserable as them, and they can get together, take turns having each others homes destroyed by a screaming, filthy horde, and drink, all while pretending they wish they'd never had sex in their lives.

Its currently 3:29am, been rocking my daughter for the last hr so she will fall back asleep and I can have a power nap before work in the AM. Then she will wake up in another 2 hours and I do this again.

This shit is rough, I can totally see why people wouldnt want kids. but after having a child for a little bit your perspective changes and everything else seems unimportant & trivial by comparison

I believe you, but Im going to assume here that she was wanted by you before she was born. If thats the case then it would make sense for her to be the only thing that truly matters. Its rough but you love her

Alternatively, it goes to primal psychology, which is easier to grasp than regular psycholgy. Primal psychology is basically "eat, fuck, raise young" and exists in all creatures. Since the main purpose of life is to propagate itself, not wanting children is seen as weird on a level that's deeply instinctual, and the human mind isn't actually capable of accepting this weirdness, so it translates out to "You'll change your mind one day." They subconsciously add "yet" to any statement of not wanting kids because wanting them is one of the most basic living instincts.

Such instincts do not exempt a person from being a shitty parent or even just a person. Never doing more then the bare minamum in regards to child raising. This is how parents raise 3-5 kids and all of them somehow end up HS drop outs, imprisoned, and just all around terrible people but of course it's never their fault.

Also while the population is expanding in some areas it's not in others. And if the the birthrate isnt above replacement numbers that's bad for country's in a number of ways.

Oh come on, it's not THAT bad lol

I have 2 littles, and it sucks at times. No more 3 AM trips to waffle house. No more binge watching Netflix till the next morning with the wife. No more miday sex. Sex becomes difficult, period, especially when the little ones are really young, and if you make the mistake of co-sleeping. A lot of the other complaints, like partying and what not, I don't have cause I never partied anyway.

There are some upsides to help counter the misery, tho they are mostly emotional. You get to experiencing everything for the first time again through them. Seeing your little ones eyes light up in wonder over their first 4th of July firework show. Seeing their reaction to their first visit at the zoo. Hearing their little laughs. Everything is just so new and magical to them. For just a moment, the world becomes a place that isnt a complete, uncaring shitstain.
