"For tomorrow," you say, "how about we wait until we're on the way back from the lake before having lunch?"

"Wait, how long does it take to get there?"

"Three and a half hours."

"That long?!" she says.

"Which is why we're getting up early!" you defend.

"How early would we have to get up so that lunch is still around, like, one?"

"Well, we can arrive before 11 if we leave at 7, 7:30. We spend a couple hours at the lake, head out before one and get something on the road."

"That's so early...!" she pouts as she slumps into lying down.

"Oh come now," you say as you lie down beside her. "We can have something quick here. I'm sure the lodge provides breakfast and coffee. And if need be, you can sleep on the ride out. The chairs recline, I believe."

"Well I guess we should go to sleep now," she says, sitting back up.

She grabs the remote again and turns off the television. Then she scoots back towards the pillows and chooses her side on the right side of the bed.

"Yes, that is true," you say. "Good night, Raven."

"Night," she grumbles.

You turn off the lights and rest your head on the other pillow.

The next morning, you wake up at 6 AM and get Raven going. The two of you shower--independently again--dress, and find your way to the dining hall. There is quite the selection, and plenty of coffee. After getting a healthy sized mug of coffee, you and Raven have...

"Look at the size of these croissants," you say as you put one on your plate. "Like a whole hand."

You load up on bacon and scrambled eggs, and even take some tiny hashbrowns. Raven takes pancakes, sausage, and eggs, and then you go to a table. The two of you eat up your hardy breakfast and are sufficiently full.

The two of you go back to the room, brush your teeth and go to your luggage to choose swim wear. You grab your black trunks while Raven chooses her peekaboo belly button one piece.

"Is that becoming a favorite of yours?" you tease.

"Isn't it a favorite of yours?" she teases back as she folds the swimsuit.

The swim wear is put in a bag and the two of you head to the parking lot. You get in the car and pull out of the lot to get on the road. You find your way back to Route 66 and head West.

As you drive, you make note of the places you can stop for lunch on the way back. They're mostly fast food but that's to be expected.

You make good time and arrive at Lake Mead at 10:38. You find a place to park, and awkwardly take turns changing in the car. And then your stomach feels awful looking over at a familiar minivan.

"Are they really here?" you say, looking around.

"Wait, what?" Raven asks as she comes around to your side.

Then she spots the minivan and grumbles.

"Let's go back," she says.

"No, no," you say. "We'll just... Avoid them. We can just get in the water."

Raven sighs and reluctantly follows you out of the parking lot.

it's the obnoxious woman from that gas station. the "familiar minivan" is an omen that she and her bratty kids are here somewhere.

You leave the Temple Bar Marina behind and walk the rather long distance of sandy shore, into the cool waters of Ladder Cove's "Safe to Swim" area.

"Very nice," you say as you go in deeper.

You look over as Raven trots in happily and splashes about. You smile and splash with her before heading further out and swimming into deeper waters.

"This is really nice," she says as the two of you float.

"Mhm," you say.

"I know you want to have a place of your own in Jump Town," she says. "And that there's the bay and beaches. But if possible, get a house with a pool so we can swim in it privately."

"That might not be a bad idea," you say. "Be up in the hills, or at least the suburbs. We'll be away from the busy city and everything like that. It might be a bit far from wherever we get a restaurant location but that's not really that big of a deal."

"Would you ride Shadowfax to work or have a car?"

"Hmm..."

"I suppose I would need a car for business," you say. "Shadowfax will be perfectly fine for casual driving around, but there's any number of things with a restaurant business that a car would help with. At least, I can't keep fooling the outside world with magic knapsacks that can hold large items. I'll need a car that we can load with whatever items or paperwork the restaurant needs."

"Would there really be that much?" she asks.

"Well I suppose I could keep things like that at an office inside the restaurant," you say. "But there might come a time when I need to bring work home. Which might be a room to keep in mind. An at home office. And as for bringing something from home, maybe some of my personal cook ware, or even just food."

"Oooh, like making original dishes?" she asks as she drifts over. "Have you ever tried doing something like that?"

"Not really," you say. "I suppose I could try at some point."

"I bet you'd be great at making an original meal," she says. "What kind of dish would you try to make?"

"I could try something with pork," you say. "Bacon, ham, spare ribs, tenderloin, sirloin, chop, shoulder, butt."

"Pork butt?" Raven chuckles. "You'd try and innovate with pork butt."

"Might as well," you say. "And oddly, 'butt' isn't even the rear, it's above the shoulder, near the head, essentially the neck area."

"Weird. But how? How would you innovate pork?"

"Well, butt would have to be roasted," you say. "I can try seasonings or rubs to really bring out the best qualities. In fact, I could use the lard."

"You'd use the lard? The fat?"

"Animal fat is just more premium, rich flesh," you say. "Lots of protein and umami for flavor."

"Well, alright. So a nice, juicy, sizzling butt."

You can't help but laugh.

"Since when do you make jokes?" you say while still chuckling.

"What? It's not just you and Beast Boy," she smiles. "I can be funny. When it's easy."

You chuckle again and kiss Raven on the forehead.

"Actually, what would be great," you say as you get the idea, "is if we could get a salamander oven. I can use it to broil pork chop and tenderloin."

"Oooh, yeah, those um, salmon in bacon you helped make," she says. "So the pork would be nice and caramelized like the bacon."

"Yes, to a degree," you say. "I'd also like to try..."

"Pulled pork. I want to see if I can get the right middle ground with the meat, where it's not too stringy. Otherwise, it gets in your teeth and you have to floss after."

"So you want to pull the pork just enough," she says.

"It does sound a bit silly when you say it like that," you chuckle. "But yes, there is a sweet spot I'm going to aim for. And then there's the sauce and seasoning, of course. I can work on my own blends of 'barbecue sauce' to mix in with the meat. Some great zest and sweetness to make the meat even more savory after roasting or boiling."

"All this talk is making me hungry," Raven chuckles.

"I'm feeling about the same," you chuckle. "But we only just got here, let's keep swimming."

"Okay," she sighs.

The two of you swim up and down Ladder's Cove and the safe area to get a great workout. Though, Raven actually takes it easier so she trails behind you. You make it to shore first and shake out your hair. You look back and get the glorious sight of Raven emerging from the water, flipping her hair back and the rest of her glistening in the sun.

"Oh stop staring," she says with a smile and blush.

You smile as you walk over to her and wrap your arms around her waist. Raven smiles bigger as she wraps her arms around you now. The two of you kiss lightly but then stop as you hear noises coming up from the left. You look over and see a procession of children shrieking with glee as they go running into the water.

"Mommy, Mommy!" one of them shouts. "Come play with us!"

"No, it's okay, honey," the mother responds. "Mommy's going to stay on dry land with her spritzer."

You see this mother in question sipping a drink as she trails behind. And sadly, it is that impatient and trashy woman from the gas station. She spots you and scowls but you and Raven move on.

You and Raven make your way back across the sand to the parking lot, and as you go to the driver's side, you notice a huge scratch in the paint!

"Are you kidding me?!" you blurt out. "Did that tawdry little duffer really key my car?"

"What?" Raven says as she comes around to see it. "Ooooh, she's going to get it!"

"Now, hold on, Raven," you say as you keep her from storming back to the water. "It won't do any good to yell at her, she'll just get mad and defensive like she's the victim."

"Then what're we supposed to do?" she asks.

"Well, fixing this is no problem," you say as you use a finger to trace the line with Restoration magic. "Alright, that's good."

"Okay, now let's get even with this stuck up little twit."

"Whoa! Raven...!"

"What? I said 'twit.' And we need to do something!"

"Raven, we're heroes. We should be nice to normal citizens. Even if they're obnoxious."

"Fine... Where are we having lunch?"

"We can stop in Kingman," you say. "It makes for a good halfway point back to the lodge."

"Alright. Probably more fast food, though, right?"

"Yes, that's what I figured as we drove up here," you say.

You pull out of the Temple Bay Marina at 12:12 and retrace your route on Route 66. You return to Kingman just before 1:30 and pull off of the highway onto Beale Street, the main street of the little town.

"Let's see..." you say. "Wendy's, Subway... Oh, there's also diners and restaurants. Quite the selection."

"Well let's try Floyd and Company," you say as you find a space to make a U-turn.

You get on the same street as the barbecue restaurant and pull into the lot. Luckily there were three spots open for the Challenger and Shadowfax.

You and Raven walk inside and already you like the atmosphere, with wood tables and chairs and even a little bar. You and Raven find an open table and take up the menus.

"Hmm, a lunch special," you say. "Heh, 'City Slicker Sammich.' Oh, yes, pulled pork! I'm definitely getting this, then."

"I think I'll have the Tennesse Style Sammich," Raven says. "It has pulled pork as an option, and a 'Home-style side' as a choice rather than the potato chips."

"Oh, yes, that's true," you say. "That or coleslaw, I think I'll go with the chips."

"Hello," a waitress says as she comes over. "What can I get you?"

You and Raven give your orders of the City Slicker and Tennessee Style Sammiches, and Raven goes with macaroni and cheese for her side.

"Now, your City Slicker is a fountain drink," the waitress says. "Is that alright?"

"Yes, that is alright. Whatever cola type you have is fine."

"I'll also have a fountain drink with mine, then," Raven says. "Also cola."

"Okay," the waitress says as she jots that down. "Two Cokes will be out shortly, and your orders will be out as soon as they're ready."

"Thank you," you say before the waitress leaves.

"So..." Raven says while stretching her legs. "When we get back to the hotel, what do you want to do?"

"Well, other than shower to properly clean up after our swim..." you say.

"Oh that's true," she says.
