Honestly the only thing that would get me legitimately hype would be fundamental changes to the netcode (not happening).

I don't get people who want their fav characters to be added. It'd make a lot more sense to just leave the roster as it is and get your fav characters in for the start of a brand new game.

Probably because they have a better chance of getting the characters added in as DLC than they do hoping the character makes the base cut of a new game, since you know X amount of spots are already going to be reserved for the characters that are in every game. If your favorite character isn't one of the main ones, you have a higher chance of them appearing as DLC for a game where most of the obvious characters have already been added than you do having them appear in the base roster of the next game.

honestly my problem with sfv is mostly with how quickly Capcom itself dropped it

some of the dlc characters were clearly modeled and animated by a B-team. and by god some of the animations are bad.

sakura is probably the biggest offender, but i got this feeling as early as kolin's announcement. some of kolin's attacks just look plain awkward.

other standouts are cammy's airthrow (which was added after release) and Abigail's punch special

To be fair, it's Street Fighter, where every iteration has multiple versions. It's a bit different from other games where what you get at the start is basically all you get save for a few tweaks here and there.

Considering most casual complaints were roster/arcade/story mode related and not the actual gameplay I'd say when they added arcade mode.

The SFV arcade mode is probably the best one in a SF game and I don't think the game would have been so widely panned if they just included simple stuff like that in the beginning.

The game got hate when it first came out because of the lack of content and that cloud still hangs over the whole game even after they've added all of the single player stuff now.

They rushed it out for the Pro Tour so it was basically a game for the pros and not casual players. I only ever play online anyway so i didn't give a rats ass about single player content.

Fight Money is the best thing any fighting game has done tbh. Being able to get the characters you want for free is great.

Capcom was dumb to release the game with so little content, and people obviously got upset over it.

But then Capcom tried to fix it with Arcade Edition, but the reaction was instead "Nah, I already decided I don't want 5, make Street Fighter 6 instead."

It's one thing to not like 5. But the reaction becoming "I don't want you to fix 5, I want you to make 6 instead," especially when the biggest complaints were addressed, was kinda dumb, too.

Although I don't think Capcom is ever going to make good netcode, or just about any Japanese company, so that may be pointless in and of itself.

I think it was just the vocal minority. You even get some pros saying they hate it but as soon as another event comes around there they are competing again.

I don't think it's fair to criticize people for not liking the feel and gameplay of Street Fighter V by telling them they should have kept waiting.

I still don't like how the game plays and didn't after the 'fixes' and 'changes' and I'd rather them try with a new game entirely.

Though to be fair it's more obvious in motion, stills don't do it justice. Still, SFV's animations overall are absolutely "budget" compared to IVs for many characters, Sakura is just the worst offender since she animates like a custom create-a-character.

SFV is the Marvel vs Capcom Infinite of Street Fighter.

Hasn't SF5 been made on a really crappy budget though? It only happened in the first place because Sony had to hand over some cash to help.
