17 players I'd expect probably a 4 man scum team, probably 1 neutral of some stripe, and 12 town with maybe 5 town power and 7 vanilla. And GFaqs Mafia typically does not use neutral roles like Survivor, they simply are not meta here. I'd expect the vanilla to be a witch or something that wins with scum but isn't scum.

Scum team almost always has a single shot extra kill and usually some kind of Strongman modifier in somewhere.

Town will have maybe 2 invests, a Jack Of All Trades, some stripe of protective and some stripe of supportive. Depending on the composition of the other roles the support might be a role blocker if the other town power roles are not super strong. If they are then the support will be something a bit weaker

I meant that if the other roles are strong then the support will be a less useful one. For instance if the Jack has like single shot Vig/Doc/Sheriff and the protector is an Elite Bodyguard or other similar high power roles

Thanks, this is very helpful. Could you clarify what "single shot extra kill" means more precisely? I'm combing the mafiascum wiki at the moment to translate my knowledge to this game.

and also, is a witch a neutral jack of all trades (who wins with scum but does not know who they are)? that wiki is unclear on that point.

one thing it might be interesting to think about is that all 3 of the biggest Jojo villains from parts 1-5 (Dio, Yoshikage Kira, Diavolo) have some form of time manipulation powers and I wonder if that would be reflected in Mafia's powers somehow. not sure if that particular flavor could easily be fit into this style of mafia game or not, though.

Yeah, I'm definitely not trying to sound like the definitive GFaqs Mafia guide. I'm usually pretty good at reading setup meta though and have a good grasp of how these things are usually balanced. Like, why 4 scum and 1 neutral that wins with scum? Because 5 scum leads to some real LyLo/MyLo shenanigans real fast. Thinking on it more there might just be 3 scum even in a 17 player game for that reason. It would depend on how fast the GM expected people to start dying.

Our meta is also that millers should instaclaim it so you know.

Last time you were talking about how you knew you were burnt out and needed to take a break. Naturally maybe you've had that break since then and have returned with renewed vigor.
