I have heard nothing but vitriol from every member of the FGC whenever this game comes up, so wouldn't be surprised at all if this is just an excuse to put it back in the oven.

The FGC hates everything, but I don't think that's completely true. There are issues with the UI and the current lobby system mainly.

Most of the issues I have heard is that the gameplay is being super casualized to try and pull in new players.

It literally has rollback planned. But it's possible about the gameplay. Unfortunately that's what happens when everyone complains your game is too hard even after simplifying it once. I'm a little worried about it myself but we're a long way out from launch.
