I love just about everything Edgar Wright makes.

Like, while I even look at Scott Pilgrim less favorably writing and content-wise, it's a gorgeous film to behold.

No, but it is a really good movie. Excellent display of Wright's visual / environmental storytelling. My only real nitpick is that I wish the climax had been an actual car chase instead of...car arena death-battle thingy.

Yeah I disagree. I think the writing in Pilgrim is aging more rapidly than Donovan in Last Crusade and in another ten years time it'll be seen as kitsch.

My favorite-written Edgar Wright film is World's End.

It would be the perfect movie if Kevin Spacey's character didn't fall apart in the second half.

*has a guy killed for leaving his mask behind*
*spends the entire first half refusing to let Baby free of his criminal connections*
*decides to help Baby and his gf because "I too was in love once"*

I like when he politely carjacks the old lady and doesn't drive away until he has a good chase song on the radio again.

How many times do we have to go through that a man dancing to the music on his ipod is different than some emo freak dancing down the street to imagined music in the contexts of the movies.

I have a theory on that.

First of all: we can take at face value that Doc is not a one-note character. He's a human behind all his bravado, but that's a little too easy. Something I like to think about is one of Doc's quotes. He "never works with the same crew twice". The implication in all the heists is that this is the first time any of them has met Baby (unless it's the second time in the later heist, of course), which means he held to that for everyone EXCEPT Baby. Doc wanted to impress on Baby that he was going to be just as hard on him as he would be for anyone else, but the problem is Doc kept using him and using him and using him for heists, and eventually actually grew attached to him. He kept threatening him all the way up to a point, but when push came to shove, he just couldn't pull the trigger. That's Doc's big weakness: eventually becoming attached. That's why he always changes crews.
