I've been playing it for years but each time i play it i dislike it more.

The weapon system is the absolute worst thing in a video game. Why in the hell would they put this in a Zelda game?

And how many times is Nintendo going to force this Art/Graphic style on us? Obviously the game looks good but this kind of style is getting old.

Also Lynnels.

For me,

1. Twilight Princess
2. Ocarina of Time
3. Majoras Mask
4. Wind Waker HD
5. BOTW

After like 10 hours you'll be throwing full weapons away to pick up better weapons. Complaints about that system are so overblown because people get potion syndrome and don't want to use their resources. The beginning of the game is intentionally light on resources so that you can learn to be crafty and work with what the world gives you.

Its definitely an annoying system. Even the best weapons get broken way too quickly and its annoying having to essentially put things on pause to bring out a new weapon. If they just made it so when one broke a new one would automatically come out Id be slightly less annoyed with it.

Please don't complain about the art style, the last time people did that about a Zelda game we got the absolutely hideous Twilight Princess style and we must learn from the mistakes of history or we're doomed to repeat it

I have this game 15 hours and out it away for good.

Don't even mind the weapon stuff, just really can't stand the aimless open world.

The weapon system is great because it applies a challenge to the early game that dissipates when you get further on. When you're picking up better weapons with more durability, you get to the point where you have too many to hold on to, and have to start throwing away stuff because nothing uses up weapons really aside from Silver Lynels and Hynoxs.

It's a clever progression system that isn't overt but gives a clear feeling of superiority when you get later in the game.

I just don't like open worlds!

I've made this post like a dozen times, but when you ask me what modern games I hate the most, the list is easy: Fallout, Skyrim, Red Dead, etc. All that stuff. BotW is in that same ilk.

I like very linear, guided, corridor experiences. The more freedom the worse it is.

I haven't played in a while, but I'm pretty sure if your weapon breaks, you just press the D-pad and it switches your weapon? You don't have to pause.

It's really hard to care about weapons breaking when I keep expanding my inventory and I have room for dozens of stuff that I end up never using anyway because I'm saving them for later.

This really isnt a complaint about the game though.
The game has never changed art. It's only been forced on you because you have been playing for years.

There came a point in time when I stopped caring about whether they break or not and just use lesser weapons on easy enemies and save the good weapons for the tough ones.

It's a freakin' real time weapon wheel that's crazy dawg. There's really no issue in just pressing the dpad twice to get to your next weapon.

The issue I continually see is that people don't understand how cheap weapons are. Now it's probably because in the beginning it's not the case so much, but after exploring like one region the game becomes easy mode.

Are you exclusively fighting Silver Lynels?

A 60 strength Royal Sword with extra durability should be like, 3 full camps of enemies.

This is ignoring the special weapon that regains durability.

And ignoring that you have bows in this game that are important to use as well.

And ofc, if you are killing groups of strong enemies, you should be getting more than enough weapons to replace whatever junk you're using anyway.

And then, obviously, if you need more easy weapons, find a black hynox and use a 2-handed weapon to spin at his feet until you get a refill.

weapons being easily replaceable and quick to switch through doesn't remove the annoyance of having to do so literal hundreds of times over a playthrough, like having a few endgame weapons that never break would cough champion weapons cough cough master sword, and the weapon system basically doesn't matter by that point anyways so why not just cut out the bad part entirely

once every enemy started being white or silver or whatever the strongest type is I found myself breaking a weapon in almost every encounter, it didn't matter that I could just switch to the next one in line because it's annoying to have to do it that many times

I'm conflicted on BotW. It does some things right that most open world games do wrong in that there are countless different solutions and ways to play the game and almost any person would have a totally different answer on a number of things and yet everything that logically sounds like it should work does in fact work, even the crazier out of the box things.

Most open world games let you go where you want but the way of doing things is pretty standard.

On the downside, BotW still is also a vast empty space where exploration is often not properly rewarded or even at times improperly punished(That cool sword you just got is now gone because you decided to kill a few enemies for a reward of...nothing).

Any sequel would need more life to the world(More bird people please) and a way to have more meaningful exploration(Shrines felt...well, too shrine-contained). Would love a shrine-like replacement that is more built into the world instead of feeling like just a portal to the inside. There were a few of these but they still didn't feel quite right on this front.

Would love a return to Link having more useful tools at his disposal as well.
