And why is it the original Final Fantasy 2:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_II

I'm talking about this game, not FF4.

I remember the SNES "Bahamut Lagoon" being pretty bad. Don't remember the details, but it was a sRPG, except that the dragons on your side were AI controlled, and I think the level-up system had some FF2 elements to it.

I personally REALLY hated FF12's battle system. I never played any version other than the original though.

Does E.T. count as an RPG? I know its famed for being one of the worst games of all time, but I don't even know what sort of genre it was originally supposed to be. So who knows, maybe we can count it, just for the lulz.

For those wondering about FF2, its thing was that it had a level up system where you get stronger in a stat by doing something associated with it. In other words, if you don't take damage, your defensive stats never increase. And its random too, I think. So you basically had to grind a lot by going back to some weak enemy area, taking off your weapons, and making your party punch each other in the face until their stats were good enough to actually tank a hit from the next boss. That is the short version anyway. The remakes gave it a different system.

I played FF2 for a couple hours. Leveling up each stat till I felt like a beast. Walked slightly north in the grass and immediately got one hit wiped out first turn by the enemies. It was at that time I realized I never saved. Fuck FF2.

Has anyone else here played Unlimited SaGa? This Metro: GameCentral reader review sums it up harshly (I lol'd):

Score: 0/10
Formats: PlayStation 2 and hopefully nothing else. Ever.
...
Age Rating: It depends on how cruel you are to children

LSS, it's a TTG in VG format, created on PC as a PS2 exclusive with no console-optimization... a lot of neat ideas that were DOA long before they escaped QA. :P

Final Fantasy Legend makes you buy your stat ups with the gold you earned from battles

You have 4 party members

And 10 spaces of inventory

stat up items don't stack

And you have to buy them one at a time

lunar 1 and 2 were classics
this 3rd game in the franchise was an abomination
it was for the DS and you had to choose if you wanted to get experience from fights or items
couldnt get both and getting items was needed to advance

The Wizardry series took a very bad turn.

The second Planescape game was not worth the time.

Someone here said Technomancer and they are right, it wasn't good. But the company went on to make Greedfall so they are for sure headed the right way.

Lastly, Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones could have been so good. Instead it was terrible, just terrible.

If we're doing least favorite RPGs, then it's Ultima: Exodus for me. The NES port.

I hate that game with a burning passion. All the chests are trapped. Your food meter depletes so damned fast, you're starving before you leave town it feels like. The combat takes forever with melee characters. And the dungeon exploration is first person.

Gag me with a spoon

I like Ultima: Quest of the Avatar well enough though.

So I always remembered thinking Ultima 8 wasn't that bad and that people were unfairly hard on it. I mean it was a downgrade from 7 sure but it was still an alright game for it's time.

I later discovered I had only ever played Ultima 8 Gold Edition which fixed all the bugs and added back in most of the cut content which was actually plot critical.
