Chinese citizens shouldn't be allowed to come here and take their education back to China.

I knew it was going to be Cotton before I even clicked on the topic.

Guys, you have to stop seeing what Cotton does in a vacuum. He couldn't care less about the science stuff (which does happen, China does send its guys here to learn our tech). He is oddly fixated in immigration. He is simply anti-immigrant.

1) At some point he sponsored TWICE an act called "the RAISE act", and raise was an allusion to race, as in racial.

It would end LEGAL immigration as we know it, and implement a points system instead. What's so bad about that? Australia and Canada do it, right?

Hold your horses. AU and CA do have it. But it doesn't substitute family-based immigration, and that's issue # 1. Also, if you read into the points system you will notice it was designed to bring native English speakers from predominantly white countries over anyone else: points would be awarded for age, education and English language.

The issue is that the system was designed to award more points to someone for being a NATIVE English speaker than for having a PHD in a STEM field or being the guy who fucking discovered the SARS vaccine. Then, your education points would be offset by your age points: you start getting penalized for age by the time you're old enough to get your PHD.

The result of the system is that a British or Australian janitor or garbage collector would get MORE POINTS than a brown or asian PHD scientist if the janitor or garbage guy are aged between 18 and 28.

2) Cotton was one of the loudest cheerleaders for BUILD DA WALL!!! and one of the loudest defenders of "yes, they ARE rapist and criminals"

3) He was one of the loudest defenders of the kids in cages policy.

4) Now he's talking about banning all chinese from student visas for tech degrees altogether?

Don't you see it? He is overly fixated on immigration. You will never see him criticize russia or russian birth tourism, though, I wonder why?

BTW his state is known for having a large number of underground supremacist organizations.... surprise surprise?

I actually agree with you. But this idea is coming from a dark place, and that's the part I disagree with.

They shouldn't be able to take their education back to china. But they shouldn't be able come here and take our jobs either, right? (I am not saying you say that, but many, many GOP people say so). So what should they do if they can't work here or go back to their homes? Should they evaporate after they get their education?

The natural progression of this is "we shouldn't have foreign students at all". Notice how Cotton & his GOP buddies first push for "STEM engineer immigration only" (like his RACE act) and then a few years later they go like "they shouldn't be able to study STEM here".

Being anti-China should be the default position. It's telling that all the users defending China in this topic are also well known for hating America.

Interesting how readily conservatives are willing to embrace affirmative action and abandon their rhetoric about how we only should be considering admitting the students with the highest scores when it comes to this topic. Very interesting indeed
Very good point.

People need to realize that China is our enemy. They run a brutal dictatorship. Yet we support them with trade and opportunities to study here. It needs to stop.

Would you say the same thing about Israel?

That's more like the US with Trump. They get to vote, but they pick the disgusting nationalist anyway.

If we do this they'll just go get educated in some other western country. Then a portion of them will end up staying in that country giving them a skilled labor advantage. So we'd lose out on both money and a skilled workforce.

Basically came into post this

Right wing politics are gonna run the educated American workforce dry
