My granny once called a number that was spray painted in the halls of our apartment building. It was a sex line. Recently, been wanting to call the old Wishbone number (the one that's on the back of most of the books) but since I'm Canadian and granny gets extremely mad if I make a long distance call (seriously, she's scary when she gets mad) so I'm forced to keep my curiosity at bay for now. Would really appreciate it if someone who still has one of the books with the phone number on the back called it to see where it lead.

I hate to ask but what's Vault Tech?

Also a Redditor answered the question on the first post: it's apparently a sex hotline now. F for Wishbone again.

Wish Wishbone's show was on Netflix... Would be interesting plus no risk of copyright claims from any of the actors.

Random phone number in a phone box. Random girl answered phone demanding to know who was phoning her. She sounded hot when mad. This was in my teens back at school.

In the various GTA III games the phone numbers included in radio shows all used to work, and you could call them in real life to get recorded messages. I'd assume they're no longer in service at this point.

I can't for the life of me remember what any of them were now. The only thing I can remember is Fernando's commercial from GTA III (cinco-cinco-cinco, nueve dos, nueve dos), but that's one of the 555 numbers that aren't real. I vaguely remember that one of them was some sort of evangelical pastor religious thing, where they were begging for donations.

They're probably somewhere in here, though:

Basically, any commercial that had an 866 number as opposed to a 555 exchange used to work.

EDIT: Here they are: http://gta.fandom.com/wiki/Phone_Numbers

Ohh, considering this is GameFAQs, it's worth noting at least two other numbers a lot of people have probably tried calling:

During the 1999 NBA strike (or was it a lockout?), Sprite ran this ad:

Several years later, the ad popped into my head at work, so I called it. It had become a gay sex line.

If you're at a store and they want a rewards card to get a discount, just give them the phone number 867-5309. There's a very strong probability that it'll work. I used it the other day at Walgreens.

Try the local area code. You could also try something like 213 (which is central Los Angeles) or 212 (which is downtown Manhattan).
