I'd like one that can play most games, but it doesn't have to be anything ridiculous. I will be building a new desktop at some point. My current laptop specs:

Processor
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz

Video Card
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M

Video Card #2
Intel(R) HD Graphics 530

RAM
16 GB

Operating System
Windows 10

900GB-ish HDD

This laptop runs a good portion of games but struggles somewhat. More importantly the battery is shot, USB ports are iffy and various components have never worked.

Here's an example of something I'm looking at, and about what my price target is:

Does that look good, or would you guys recommend something different?

Take it to the PC hardware boards. Judging from the topics that appear on this board, no one knows how a PC works.

What you want is a PC with blast processing. The more LEDs you put in it, the higher your FPS will be. Make sure that your power supply is able to handle the wattage your gaming will demand. Remember to always build up a static charge when installing new components, as this will help keep new electrons from getting trapped in the system.

This all checks out.

In addition to all this there's a very useful guide made by The Verge a few years ago. They were so proud of it that it was just too popular to keep so they made the video private. Fortunately, mirrors exist. It is a fantastic guide on PC building, you'll learn so much.

If you're good with waiting a little while the new AMD 4000 laptop processor is supposed to be an absolute beast. I was in the market for a new laptop earlier this year and decided to hold off, some laptops with it are finally starting to trickle out.

I'd also recommend getting something with at least 144hz display, upgrading from a standard 60hz display to something high refresh is a huge upgrade imo.

I see. That does look good, although the design looks a little fragile. I have been known to drop stuff. The lower price is a plus.

Their TUF line is supposed to have a long life in terms of keeping dust out of the system, not sure how it'll take to dropping though.

Should be quite a few laptops coming out with the new processor over the next few months too.

If you're gonna drop a laptop there are probably worse ones to drop!

Ah, that is good. I haven't had any that were sold on durability before, but I know they exist.
