Remember when the boards used to be super active? I would say the golden era was from (2000-2008)

Imdb shut their message boards down, made me sad. Thier reason was everyone was using social media and reddit.
I appreciate the fact that gamefaqs is still here, even if its quieter.

The trolls on that board were alpha. Way better than the garbage trolls infesting CE nowadays

Or we were younger so it felt like it.

Anyways the only thing I miss is how active the console boards were. Even now the Xbox and PS4 boards dont generate enough new topics to keep me interested.

I miss it. There used to be enough people posting so that you could have decent conversations about a variety of classic games. There are classic gaming subs on Reddit, but it just isn't the same. It's mostly people posting pictures of their collection or showing off the final screen from a NES game or whatever.

Remember the hot CE gals like mox and tabby?

It depends on perspective.

The golden era of GameFAQs is back when this site was still kind of like the wild west (whether that be bad or good). Least that is what the older base on this site felt was the golden age, but to CJayC and the mods it was more like a nightmare for them.

With the changes to the internet coding and the rules, this right now would be like the golden age for them rather than the users since they can control the rowdiness more easily now.

I hate to say it, but this place is way more boring than how it used to be.

I was more or less in the middle of the transition when GameFAQs social circles were starting to change, and the earliest users were starting to leave.

Just to add:

I know people are going to say this site wasn't like the wild west, it definitely was despite how very strict CjayC was but you be surprised what people got away with back then.

I yearn for the times on CE when youd have to bump a topic with Fast CE is fast, now even on the busiest days your topic will just sit on the front page.

I was a lurker I think around 2003-2005, my first account was in 2006 which is now forever lost afaik.

Paranormal board was a lot of fun back then, and then the board started getting really stupid.

Also joined in 05 and agree that 08-12 was probably the peak. I discovered CE in 2009 and I remember if you were to make a lame topic with no responses it would be bumped off the first page of 50 within minutes. Thats how populated this place used to be.

To be fair part of the problem is we have so many boards now, there is no real centralization anymore.

There is people still here, but just incredibly scattered.

Though I will say DISCORD really shook things up too, but that came way later.

I am guessing you were just happy back then , thus you remember this place as a happier place. It wasn't .. it was full of Assholes, and good people like it is today. In fact I dare say there are less assholes now. While it still happens people would attack my grammar daily, back then. And I even had a disclaimer about my learning disability . Like about making fun of someone in wheelchair because they couldn't walk. That is what people did to me almost eveyday. And the mods sucked back then too. Someone attacked my me in that manner and I fought back. I was modded and the other people never were.
