This is a wild situation and it seems like you won't get a clear, agreed upon answer to it from different people; but lol at some of you guys saying the dude here isn't a "real man" just because he clearly didn't want to hurt this person (who is obviously troubled and on some kind of drugs).

In the heat of something crazy like this, lots of things could be running through someone's head. You're, likely, not at your most focused.

Like, was she on PCP or something? Weird that a crowd of people couldnt take her down but a 12 yr old could. I mean yeah, he used a (possibly spud) wrench, but still. I wouldve just tried to get her in a chokehold/full-nelson and then had family call the police. Rather than destroying my new home.

Still doesn't change the fact that warning shots are incredibly dangerous and a stupid thing to do. Guns should only ever be fired at a specific target and you do not want to miss, otherwise the bullet can hit someone else.

There is a point where compassion is actually a bad thing you know.

I would say 39 warning shots worth of compassion is well past that point.

I don't think this guy needs 30 years in prison or anything but at the minimum he does not to be smacked over the head and laid into for his stupidity as well as have his gun/gun license confiscated. He is a fool not a monster.

If you weren't willing to harm her leave the house and call the police.

39 warning shots and some real life Smash Bros that destroys a house and culminates in a preteen stabbing someone in the neck with a wrench is pretty much the worst case scenario short of someone actually dying.

She is a woman and he is a man. Unless he has a medical condition or is weak he should be able to restrain her with considerable issues at worst. Hell, he should have just had the wife take the kids and called the cops while he distracted her / held her at gun point. If she tries to charge him he'd put her down and I highly doubt the cops would hold it against him if there is evidence of her intruding without permission.

Ever try to restrain a cat or dog in an extreme panic?

Yeah now imagine doing that to something that not only weighs 2-10 as much, but has opposable thumbs, may be carrying a weapon and is quite possibly immune/resistant to pain due to Drugs/Extreme mental issues.

Not to mention the person is a stranger and you don't have the familiarity to hopefully calm them like you might a with a terrified pet.

While that many warning shots (or any) is stupid. The alternative isn't to fucking execute someone.

Of course it isn't: the alternative is do not fire. If you're comfortable missing on purpose, your finger shouldn't even be on the trigger. That's not machismo, that's basic gun safety.

Looking at the pictures, Im going to assume that he was upstairs and she was downstairs trying to come up. It seems like he was firing shots into the stair wall to keep her where she was at and stop her from coming upstairs. Which isnt totally unreasonable since she was first asking for help.

So he didn't even have anything definite to shoot at (intentionally missing or no)? That's worse.

It would be interesting to see a timeline of events. I wonder if it was a semi-automatic pistol? If the wife had immediately called 911, the police had immediately showed up, and the guy hadnt blown through all his ammo then it might not have been the worst plan.

There are worse plans, but not many. This was awful.

Why did none of them call the police ?, all 4 of them likely own a cell phone and atleast 1 of them could have called the moment this woman refused to leave.

The father not only endangered his family but who knows who else as any one of those 39 bullets could have penetrated into another persons house and harmed if not killed someone else.

People keep saying have compassion for the naked woman on drugs but I say what if she actually killed a member of this family ?, the mother and daughter both attacked her but clearly were ineffective until the son got a metal tool to end the threat.

In this case the father is not only a loser for failing his family but is irresponsible, and a danger to his neighbors.

It is not something any gun owner with a brain wants to risk, the father should never have done any warning shots, he should have protected his family. All he is now is the #1 example of what NOT to do and is likely hated by his family for his failure to do his job.

and how anyone can seriously side with a home invader is beyond me. I can have empathy for someone who may be not all there mentally. But Id rather live with killing someone in defense then living with the death of a loved one on my conscience.

Not siding with the invader, but still doesn't give the right to kill them unless they are actively putting your life in danger which it doesn't sound like she was initially, and was just refusing to leave. Killing someone at that point is just straight up murder.

If she was attempting to harm/kill them then I'd have far less issue with self defence that resulted in her death.

Yeah, if you ever take a concealed carry class one of the first things they tell you is firing a "warning shot" will get you arrested. You only fire the weapon if your feel your life is in danger. Same applies to this situation. If he was going to fire a shot, and didn't want to kill the person - that's why they invented rock salt shotgun shells.

That, or it's a naked blue hair chick. Just hold her down.

Naked intruders probably have aids or some other life long issue. Best bet is to take the legs out from distance if possible and call the cops. Throw a heavy chair on them if they continue to resist.

Another thing taught with guns is you never aim for limbs. Increases chances of missing incredibly. You aim for the largest mass which is the torso. So no fancy headshots either.

Shoot them in the belly and they'll probably die from a major organ being damaged or the stomach spilling in the cavity. Thighs are big targets.
