Flamethrower is the only thing that puts out any decent damage in Axiom Verge.
I spent most of the game using the damn drill as a primary weapon.

Driller's flamethrower in Deep Rock Galactic is purdy good.

A general rule of retro games is that flame based weapons are either going to be the strongest or the weakest. There's virtually no in-between.

Star Ocean 2 Chisato had a fun and useful flamethrower until you use it too much and it upgrades to a crappy version. Thankfully her Tear Gas attack doesnt do that and just rocks forever.

Seems like Doom Eternal's flame belch is going to be a pretty crucial utility, given that you can use it to farm enemies for armor which is one of the three main resources of the game.

I vaguely remember Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire having a decent flamethrower, even if it was overshadowed by every other weapon.

Call of Duty: World at War had a decent one.
Bastion has one, though it's just ok.
Hotline Miami 2 has a brutal, powerful flamethrower, but it runs out of ammo very quickly.

Most of the time, flamethrowers are intentionally weak in multiplayer because otherwise they'd be way too good. Real life flamethrowers are horrifyingly effective.

Post-balance patch gears of war 3 flamethrower would have baddies raging at you for hours via text chat, lmao. It was easy to avoid, but a lot of the gears community got the wall-bouncing up close and gnasher mentality that they tend to run right into stuff like retro lancers, sawed off shotties and the post-patch scorcher.

Not really.
The whole point of Dead Space is severing limbs to take out enemies. So if you go for direct damage, it should take longer to kill these zombie-ish monsters.

In FO76 you can put a flame barrel on plasma guns. I got one with the Furious prefix, which is stacking dmg as long as you don't miss. Its OP as fuck.

You don't get the flamethrower until basically the end of the game in the last of us, but it basically wrecked everything you still had to deal with without much trouble.

Also the Star Wars PSP battlefronts had a dope flamethrower, even if it played second fiddle to hacking infinite orbital strikes.

Armored Core has flamethrowers being at least semi useful pre-Nexus.

The Ignis is like the best weapon there is until late game. Fuck aiming. Just run around and slaughter everything. Also it shoots through walls as well as punches through enemies.

ME3's MP had a good one, but it was an ability. It helped that you could fire the Acolyte during the stream if you charged it before you started to offset its weakness(barriers/shields).

Came in to say this. Flamer was awesome in the ME3 MP.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
It's an incredibly powerful weapon which can chew through a lot of HP quickly and is effective even if you haven't invested in the relative skills. Great for making some of those HP-bucket end-game bosses more bearable. *coughMingXiaocough*

The flamethrower in Horizon: Zero Dawn is fairly good. It has the typical range issue, but machines are typically super in your face anyway if you aren't being stealthy.
