I've been with my girl for 10 years. That's longer than a good chunk of marriages.

I get that.

For us, it's almost more about the cost. We'd have to pay for it out of pocket. No offense to the people in my life but I don't like 'em that much.

The traditional reasons being religion? Business? Because as a man you like claiming ownership over a woman?

Let's be real: in 2020, marriage is kind of a farce. Divorces and now multiple marriages are common.

Honestly, man, I don't see why people re-marry a second person. If the first marriage didn't work out, I'm curious what the thought process is about a new marriage. Also, multiple marriages kind of diminishes the value of the idea of marriage.

Me and my girl, we're going all the way baby.

Marriage makes sense only if you want to connect families. If you or she hates the (future) in-laws or aren't in a good relationship with the in-laws, etc. then there is literally zero reason to get married.

Ive been married for 6 years. 6 glorious years. Weve had our ups and downs, but she is gorgeous, funny, a blast to just kick it with, and has great taste in almost everything.

Marriage is taking it a step further, saying that Ill never give up on you no matter what, and publicly stating it. Anyone can just stay together for 10 years. Trust me, if you ever do get married, tough times will come. Times that will test your relationship. Right now, you are just coasting.

Divorces happen because people dont invest in each other, simple as that.

I've been with my girl for 7 years, we both have no desire to be married. Unless there's kids involved, I don't really understand the point of it. Seems like it's just a very expensive, symbolic thing. I've seen many of my friends end up in divorce or break up long-term relationships or be stuck in abusive marriages; people change sometimes and I don't want a messy situation if we both don't like each other in 15 years time or whatever.

He never said but I assume they were miserable for a long time and the stress of the wedding broke them. She drinks like a fish and he used to but slowed down which I imagine created a void in lifestyles.

They cancelled the wedding like a month prior.

not gonna speak for the guy you quoted but imo...

I dont think there is any less commitment prior to marriage. I do think marriage changes the way you think about the relationship. I personally thought the day before and the day after the wedding would be the same.

but when you start saying my wife... or hearing oh this is my husband the internal role you take on (at least for me) changes

you might think youre already there like I did. But there is something spiritual about the entire thing...and Im not too spiritual of a guy.

i would say if your commitment is as deep as you claim it is, then marriage will make it deeper because you actually take it seriously. Hard to explain these things...

No. Its the same. If its different then you wernt serious about the relationship to begin with and shouldnt get married.

Dude I know had his gf of over 10 years die suddenly. Everything went to her daughter from a previous relationship that lived out of state. The house was hers and the guy couldn't prove that any of the appliances or anything were his so those also went to the daughter. Only thing in his name was his car. Everything he had split costs on were taken by next of kin. He got fucked over because of her having issues with marriage from earlier in life.

Why wouldn't it be. If two different couples are together for ten years but one is married, why would anything be different from the two other than the fact that the married couple has some benefits?

lol I used to work with this guy. His wife also worked for the company. He used to say that all the time. "My wife and I..."
