Anyone have a recommendation for a dedicated device to put MP3's on for playing in the car through USB? I want to load it up with 150GB or so of music and leave it plugged in to USB in the car. I'm open to MP3 players, portable HDD's.

I know I'm a boomer and I should just get spotify or whatever, but I like owning my own MP3's and having it ready to go anytime.

Who let you out of the retierment home grandpa? If your car is modern enough you can just load everything to a USB stick and plug it into your cars USB drive and access the files from the screen.

I use a Fiio x3 with a 400gb card for my music player

I wouldn't recommend a Fiio x1, as the one I had broke, but an x3 or x5 would be nice

i own a fii0 X1-2 and it works great, and while i havent used either of the ones he owns I'd say they are decent reccomendations.

Yeah my x1 was probably 1st Gen, so they might have fixed issues in the redo

My x3 is 2nd Gen

It's not perfect but more than adequate for what i need. 99 bucks with a 64gb micro SD in a deal i got. Hell of a steal. If i was nitpicky I'd have thrown it out a car window but it's a hell of a device for what it is. Plastic overscreen has cracked ages ago(my fault) but until it dies i won't upgrade

Could be worse. He could have to burn MP3s to CD and play them off that.

Apple Music. Or Spotify (although they send your data to Facebook, which is why I dropped them)

My car's original stereo had a tape player but no CD.

Most of the stock radios I've had in cars over the years didn't even have tape players. My current car is pretty much the only one I've ever owned with anything other than AM/FM - it has a CD player and XM radio (though I stopped paying for the subscription like 8 years ago).

My Caprice has an aftermarket stereo (Kenwood eXcellon) with two USB ports, so I just stuffed a large USB stick in there with most of my music collection. It's also got a Sirius XM receiver.

My Expedition has a crappy stock AM/FM/tape/CD stereo but it can play MP3s that are burned to a CD, so that's what I usually do. I also have a bluetooth to FM adapter/charger and an Amazon Echo Auto, so Alexa can stream music or Sirius XM stations using my phone's data plan and play it back through the FM radio.
