Most of it is grown men using mental gymnastics to victimize themselves for bad physical or social decisions, not realizing that losing 30lbs, getting a haircut and not being a buffoon in public is all you need to get the attention you want. However that's not the answer either, as most want a pure hearted gentle soul to fawn over them day and night.

"Just take a shower, go to the gym, etc." Not that it's bad advice but some situations are more complicated than that.
