I finished Oblivion so now I turn my attention to fallout 3. Enjoying it so far just gotta remember it's a different game than elder scrolls dammit.

There's a settlement near the vault that has a bunch of young people, they'll need your help clearing out super mutants. Finishing that quest line gives you an item that having in your inventory grants +1 luck.

Yeah, cant remember what it's called but theres a lab there. And first thing I did with all my playthroughs after the first was go grab it.

That said. If it's your first playthrough just go with the flow and go where makes sense. Dont get to caught up in optimal character creation. That's the downfall of most games like fallout and TES imo

I remember getting there at second level, but it's so effing hard to avoid discovering any new areas. So glad I haven't touched that game in years.

It's tricky at the beginning but gets better.

VATS is stupidly good in Fallout 3. Make sure you get your Perception, Agility, and Luck up to at least 6 to take advantage of most of the good Perks.

Keep an eye out for variants of weapons with unique names. These usually have extra bonus properties. E.g. the standard Chinese Pistol is super lame and weak, but there is a unique called the Zhu Rong pistol that, IIRC, deals bonus fire damage. The same applies for stronger weapon types. Some types have multiple unique variants, IIRC. The Sniper Rifle comes to mind, and the unique variant the Victory Rifle is handy for the ragdoll knockdown property that lets you rush targets and light them up with some buckshot at close range as they struggle to get back on their feet, useful against the DLC enemies.

Related to the above, be careful about repairing gear. Bethesda lets you 'consume' unique weapons to repair generic versions. Repairing gear in general is a pain because you need extra copies of the gear. Sometimes you get a break though, such as almost any variant of Combat Armor being able to repair any other variant.

I've been laughing my ass off at the moments when I completely obliterate someone and it tells me one of their appendages are crippled. Like last night I killed a raider with a frag grenade. They're body is flying through the air and their body detaching and it gives me message saying their left leg has been crippled.

Right? Another time I shot a raider at close range and his torso popped like a grape and it told me their arm was crippled. Or got a head shot making it explode and getting told their head was crippled. Like...you think? Wouldn't have known that...
