Didn't care a ton for Rey being a descendant of Palpatine.

I do however love the implication that there was an Imperial family

Specifically a son

This guy's father was the Emperor and a Sith Lord. What kind of upbringing did he have?Was he force sensitive? Did he play any role in the Empire at all?

Guy fell in love with a lady and lived a life as junk trader. Probably hated his father and got as far away from him as he possibly could

I wanna fucking know more about this guy. God damn.

I wish that they would have had a good story line that went from Episode 7 through 9 instead of making it up as they went along. I left the theater feeling pretty empty knowing that this is supposedly the last we'll see of this saga.

I liked the movie. I just wanted to chat about Palpatine's son and the implications of his existence.

At the time of TLJ I was disappointed that Rey's parents were some nobodies but I've been thinking about it quite a bit lately and I don't know what surprise lineage she could have had that I wouldn't have thought was dumb/contrived as hell.

Yeah, I enjoyed the "Rey is a nobody" reveal.

I don't dislike her being descended from someone per se but I think if they were going to walk it back it could've been revealed better

Worst part about the Rey Palpatine is that Disney seems to believe the force is genetically inherited. This is false. That's a Skywalker-only trait due to Anakin being fathered by the force itself.

but also i never really bought the idea that her parents were nobodies

it was always implied through kylo ren and obv his intentions is to win her over. so he wouldn't necessarily be telling the truth. and i know TLJ subverted traditional ideas/themes but i always felt the saga would tie rey into the whole skywalker family line. i guess it ended up being palpatine, but i knew her heritage would be important

TFA takes place in 34ABY

So she'd have been born in 14ABY

Her dad looked like he was in his late 30s or early 40s when he died in 19ABY

Let's put him at 40 just to be simple

He'd have been born around the time the Empire was created

Its been shown in canon that it IS. Where do you pull your idea that its not from? The Skywalkers are the only Jedi ever shown to reproduce in the original trilogy, and theres never anything close to saying it was because of some force meddling.

Hell, it explains the Jedi not being "allowed" to reproduce. Theres plenty of evidence throughout all media. Its definitely a thing.

I did the math in my head the day RoS released but dude definitely had his kid while emperor. He kinda had to.

Even with TCs estimation of 40 (based on the guys appearance and rounded up) he could have been born before the Empire formed, but you could easily say he was only 35 or even 30; could have been born 5-10 years before Palps rose to ultimate power.

Rey being a Palpatine could have been really fun if they revealed it in the second movie and had some time to run with it. The concept of the descendant of the villain being the hero, and the descendant of the hero being the villain, leaves some cool potential.

But actually reviving Palpatine was pointless. They should had done a better job of building Kylo into a credible threat over the first two movies, instead of being a serial jobber. >_> Snoke himself could have been played with too. Maybe make him a "pretender to the throne" type deal who wants Rey so he controls the Imperial legacy. Idk.
