Portal 1 was better tho

It understood that less is more .

P2's long boring walking sequences and over the top set pieces just miss the mark and date the game

Not to mention it misses the mark. Portal 1 had minimal cutscenes and dialogue but contained a good story

P2 had long conversations and regularly interrupted puzzles and gameplay for story and conversations

P1 was like a delicious steak dinner
P2 was like a giant messy pile of mash potato, ice cream, sprinkles, chips, pizza, burgers, curry and chocolate fired out of a canon all over a dirty floor

Prey was such a good game in conception

it innovated portals and concepts like No Game Over

I dont recall anything about cave johnson or the changes the facility went through in any of the wall writings or the final boss fight. Or how Glados came into being other than gaining self awareness and trying to kill everyone. Like 60 years of what led up to that were not explained in the first game.

Portal 2 had WAAAAY too much of the "find that tiny spot in a large area that the portal gun works on" type puzzles and I use the word puzzles extremely loosely here.

It's still hilarious though, despite the gameplay missteps. The voice acting and writing is still funny even if Portal 1 did it first, and that bambina ending song is one of the best I've ever heard:

He was the entire backstory of the game and why everything is why it is. Did you even play the game? Half of the game is you going through the facility that was built at different points in time and seeing his discoveries and inventions, and how it all led up to the beginning of the first game. He wasnt some one off side character that is only mentioned once in the game.

Exactly

he didnt add anything

it just interrupted gameplay to pad the game out with comedy

Great that you liked it but that's way worse than P1 imo

It's like the Space 2001 sequels

As much as I enjoyed Portal 2, I really loved this about Portal 1. Looking for details in each room that would help piece together more of the story was really fun.

I still love Portal 2. It just felt a bit bloated compared to 1.

Everybody loved Portal 1 when it came out calling it GOTY (and that was a very good year for games) but everyone did complaint about the shortness of the game.

Portal 2 was that solution.
