Yeah, I remember that being super impactful.

Like, I remember they totally bring this up and she just straight-up doesn't care. You expect some clever lateral solution to what looks like an impossible situation but nope. They just took the blunt route and I was shocked.

whotf is tuvix
A transporter accident accidentally fused Tuvok and Neelix into one being who called himself Tuvix. Without a way to unfuse the two of them, Tuvix was essentially given Tuvok's job. Being a fusion of the two character, he had Neelix's sociability, but Tuvok's traits ground out the spikes on Neelix's spiked ball of a personality. He was a good tactical officer, he could cook better than Neelix, he respectfully kept his distance from a mourning Kes, and he was well-liked by pretty much everyone.

Eventually, they figure out how to separate Tuvok and Neelix out of Tuvix. The only problem is that Tuvix is, y'know, a person and he doesn't want to die. Janeway tries to quietly lead him away, but he instead runs from person to person on the bridge, begging for his life. When not a single person speaks up for him, he tries to run, but security stops and restrains him. He finally realizes there's no escape and - to give you an idea of the kind of person Tuvix is - he forgives the crew because he honestly believes they're good people that will be haunted by this.

The Doctor, a hologram, is the only person worth a fuck in the situation because he refuses to do the procedure as it breaks the Hippocratic Oath. Janeway has no such problem and kills Tuvix to bring back Tuvox and the Great Detestation.

Voyager was dope. Most people prefer DS9 but I could never really get into it. Felt a little too out there to me with all the space jesus stuff.

Voyager had that classic formula of a ship and its crew exploring the galaxy though, with a sweet twist that still allowed it to do all new stuff. Great show, underrated imo.

It's the trolley problem. Is it more moral to let two people die through inaction or to save those two by killing one?

"We don't trade lives." Cap never would have done it. There was no real moral dilemma. There was a clear right and wrong. She murdered Tuvix to save her friends.

On an actual good TV show, Janeway killing Tuvix would have been a formative part of her character and changed her totally from that point forward. But, unfortunately, this happened on Star Trek: Voyager.

Because I won the dispute. Someone marked it as a spoiler, but GameFAQs policy is that its not a spoiler if its in the trailer. Well, guess what? Janeway murdering Tuvix actually is in the episode trailer from 24 years ago. So its not a spoiler under GameFAQs rules.

And that really shouldnt be that surprising. Producers knew that no one was going to believe they were dumping Neelix and Tuvok for some new guy. So instead they let everyone know what was going to go down and instead played up the ethical dilemma of the situation.

One of those lives was Neelix though who is the direct cause of at least one death, so the math doesn't track.

Netflix really isnt that bad

He actually had flaws and breathed some life into a very dull crew.

Plus he was the only one who had first hand knowledge of the region

I feel like the people who hate him are the same people who think James Bond and Steven Seagal movies are the best characters

Reminder: The transporter split Riker and made two different Rikers. The one we know and Lt Tom Riker. This is public knowledge. Voyager could have made two Tuvixs. Then cured one.

It was the right thing to do, but I disagree with your why.

Tuvix was like if someone painted a mustache on another artist's artwork. It's absolutely art but you had no right to that canvas so I'm doing a restoration. If you wanted this dude with a mustache you should have made a reproduction first.
