I pretty much never play JRPGs (this might be my first one since Golden Sun), and I never played a Ys game before, but I just got done playing Ys VIII and I loved it. As far as RPGs go I know this isn't a groundbreaking game or anything, but I had fun the whole time. Fully recommend.
