I was mostly home schooled until high school. Is the 6th grade when you actually have lockers, more than one class, etc? When do they actually get GPAs?

Probably middle school, although there's still grades on each assignment in elementary school (the upper years at least)

Yes, that was the first time I remember getting real grades for things, and the other stuff you mentioned too.

Your GPA doesn't really matter until high school, though. I don't remember having it calculated in middle school.

It's probably also worth mentioning that middle school doesn't always start with 6th grade. It's usually 6-8th, but some schools do slightly different years.

I remember getting a report card all throughout elementary school. I dunno if they kept track of GPA, but we were definitely getting graded as early as 1st grade (don't think they graded us in kindergarten). They also had us change classes too. I don't think I had a locker until middle school though.

At our elementary school we had different teachers for different subjects, but it was all in one "home room", so the teachers rotated out except for maybe the science class. But it was the same few subjects every day.

In Middle School (7th and 8th grades) we had a core set of classes we had to take (math, English, science, etc.) and then we got to fill up the rest with electives. We also had our own lockers.

High School was most like college - we didn't necessarily have core classes any more, we just had graduation requirements, though the way the requirements worked out you did wind up having to take at least a few subjects for all four years (like English and IIRC Science). Most of the requirements were in 1 "Credit Unit" blocks - 1 CU was one year (two semesters/four quarters). So for instance, most PE classes were a semester long. In my case, I took one semester in Freshman year and one in Senior year and got my 1 complete CU.

Middle and High School we did have alternating days, so you'd have your A block days and then your B block days.

It was really cool actually, you started out with a lot of mandatory classes but by Junior/Senior year you either could fill up your schedule with electives or literally just schedule your classes in a way that you'd go home at lunch time for the day >_>. I wasn't that smart though... I failed classes on the regular so I constantly had to make them up in various ways. So... I did get the last class block off a couple times in the final year and just walked home during that time - got home a little earlier than if I stayed and took the buss.

Did you get As and Bs, etc.? We got unconventional ones like E for excellent and S for satisfactorily in elementary school.

You only get a GPA when you start taking high school credit classes. My record starts in 5th grade, but the class I took was worth 0 credits.

Grades started in first grade. GPAs started in 6th.

Switching classes in 4th.

4 and 5the grade switching was between 3 teachers.

6-8, we had 9 periods a day.
9-12, we had 8 periods a day.

I middle and high, you had the same classes every day. We did not use block scheduling.
