How is it that Rey is related to the Emperor exactly? What's the parent line relation?
I was paying Attention to that part but It's easier to understand through text for for me.

Palpatine had a kid at one point

That kid banged someone and Rey was their baby

So she's Palpatine's granddaughter.

So now we can picture Palpatine bent over some woman thrusting in and out and yelling "WHO'S THE SENATE" followed by "UNLIMITED POWER" when he climaxes.

I think he probably actually banged someone. Rey says her parents were strong for leaving Palpatine, and obviously she'd have no way of actually knowing how that whole thing went down, but that would imply her parents knew Palpatine on some personal level.

On the whole I think her being related is dumb, can't other force users use lightning in the "canon" series or are they gonna treat it like Palpatine is special?

I think they said it was her dad that was Palp's son. And Rey realized he was so evil he killed his own son

Dooku uses it in AotC. In fact, it's a way they show Palpatine's power. Yoda deflects Dooku's lightning easily, but Palpatine's catches him off guard and requires much more effort to counteract.

Its also not a purely dark side power, Plo Koon used it sparingly, though he called it by a different name

The Visual Dictionary says that Lando's daughter was abducted by the First Order. So he was definitely interested in knowing if that could be her.

That part in TLJ was just Kylo Ren telling Rey that because he was trying to bring her to the dark side. I don't know why fans treat it as if because he said it that means they're really nobody.

even if they had a spy there was no subplot about it.

I think the spy was working for Palpatine actually. that is what it seemed like

my mistake on that last bit it related to TLJ, I made a point to rewatch 7,8 so they all kinda bled together.

that part felt really unnecesarry and awkward. Like, why even bother with something like that at the end of a trilogy? Is this chick getting a tv show or what's the point of the scene?
