I've had mine for just under 2 years now. So far, I'd say it's a good console, but definitely not a great console. Even a very good console is a bit of a stretch. Because I've already played some of the best games on the Wii U, the new stuff is rather limited. I've got about 20 games, and only 4 or 5 are excellent games. The rest basically vary between good and dreadful. Look at garbage like VK4, or LM3. For me, a console is largely (but not entirely) defined by it's software library, and this library isn't as good as it should be. There's also the graphics, which just about match a standard XBox One or PS4, but not the souped up versions. I own about 10 consoles, and this is one of my least favourite. And this is coming from a Nintendrone! Having said that, the Switch is, of course, only just under 3 years through a 5+ year lifespan, so...we'll see.

Thoughts on what I've said? Your own opinions on the console? People talk like it's a great console, potentially GOAT console after 5 years.

I love it and use it more than any other games console simply because it's a portable console, but the stick drift is shocking.

A few things I hate about it:

• the battery life is quite bad (but if it's fully charged you will get in a solid gaming session)
• the sleep mode still seems to drain a ridiculous amount of battery. I managed to go down from 50% to 20% in 2 days without ever switching it on.
• No bluetooth, seriously? That's a major disappointment. You've got a portable device but you're still plugging in your headphones to listen.
• Yeah, the stick drift. It's mega bad. Everyone I know with one has problems now.
• The dock is a clever idea but needs engineering improvements, I feel.
• I don't hate this because I'm still getting a lot of mileage, but the current library is disappointing. Most of my time has been on ports, apparently.

If youre a big Nintendo fan, then this has some of their best software ever

If youre a general game fan, the 3rd party support is great, but most ports are inferior for obvious reasons

I really only play Smash Bros on it, and I'm not thrilled with paying for their staggeringly shitty, archaic, barebones internet "service" to play ONE game online.

As far as the system itself goes, hate the joycons, and it lost Wii U's best feature, virtual console, so I'm not exactly in love with it.

Had it since launch, it's one of my favorite consoles of all time. I think I've played my Xbone and PS4 like a total of 8 times after getting a Switch, side from RE2 this year.

Also wtf dude, how can you label Luigi's Mansion 3 as garbage? That game is a masterpiece.

currently it is collecting dust in my living room, i dont think ive turned it on in months. after the hybrid console novelty wore off all that was left is a console with a mediocre library & $80 joycons that fall apart after like 5 hours of use

But I just got mine this past weekend. Havent been able to dig into the games I want because my fiance bought it for me and so I bought Mario Party and Mario Kart is that we could play some stuff together during the holiday break. So far, I like it. Its not bad enough time to go down as my favorite recent Nintendo console, but it will do so, Im sure. Especially after they port more stuff such as Wind Waker HD. I will agree though. For as long as the Switch has been out, the library should definitely be larger.

Had mien for two years and the joycons are still fine, WTF are you guys doing with ithem? I can only imagine people are way to rough or careless with their stuff.

I absolutely adore it. Favorite console I've had in a decade. The utility of it is just so, so clutch for me and it runs great. Love how swapping games or booting up where you left off from takes no time at all.

I dont like how small and compact the buttons are. The 3DS buttons were slightly bigger and spread apart. Other than that Ive been greatly enjoying it.

Longer, for sure. Its like what they tried doing with the WiiU, but better. Even the 3DS still does well for its age.

Of course, the XBox 360 and PS3, and (sort of) the Wii, lasted for 7+ years. Crazy. It was actually really cool how long they were "going" for, though, since I didn't have to splash out money on a new console. As a very long-termer gamer, though, I was shocked for a console I owned, i.e. the 360, to have a 6th and 7th year. Some good stuff, too: Black Ops, Resident Evil 6, and others.

I got mine in June, and I really enjoy it. It's great to bring to work and play on my lunch break, or on a long car ride, but also I'm playing more in docked than I anticipated. I still haven't made my way through all the big titles that came out before I bought it.

It's helped that this has been a slow summer/fall for Xbox, as far as games I'm interested in, so I've been able to focus more on the Switch.

The stick drift thing is a known design issue regardless of whether you have it or not, it's not like the thousands of people complaining about it are all just coincidentally careless

But the drift is a serious problem. I've sent all four joycons in for repair and they all have drifted again and need to be sent again.

besides the joycon drift (which started earlier this year about 5% of the time or less on my left joycon, launch system) I think it is easily the best hardware design nintendo has ever made. Just needs a few more heavy hitters to compliment the wealth of great smaller scale games and it will cement itself as their best console.

it's a good paperweight

I recently got one, it's the first Nintendo console i've owned since Gamecube. I've owned all the Xbox consoles, and a PS3 since.

I gotta say, it's disappointing overall because how much it's held back. Little things I find annoying, the biggest one is lack of button mapping. It's inexcusable that they feel the need to stick to their guns as "the original button layout!" and i'm constantly screwing up because i'm so used to the A and B buttons being swapped. It's hurt me overall as a gamer because if I play the Switch for hours, then go back to Xbox, then i'm backwards on Xbox. I absolutely hate it.

The inability to rearrange queued downloads is awful also. Why can't I pause a large download and start a smaller one, or push one ahead in priority?

Playing Pokemon Sword, which is my first Pokemon game ever besides GO, the constant need to "connect to internet" to do things is insanely dumb. Just connect me online and keep me connected at all times until I sign out. It's not hard.

The resolution is brutal on a 55 inch 4k, i'm playing Breath of the Wild, and it's a brilliant game so far, but it looks like a 360 game and the jaggies on stuff like grass is distracting. A lot of the textures are very weak also. It seems like for a modern console, it should look better and support 4k. It's just a minor gripe, i'm not too hung up on graphics, but i'm imagining how much better it would look on PC or X1X.

No kind of party chat, or microphone support for online gaming is awful also. I have to sit there on a group phone call to talk to family when playing Switch together.

The stick controls themselves are poor, maybe i'm spoiled on the Xbox controller, but the thumbsticks could be a lot smoother, and even a bit tighter. It's taking a lot of getting used to.

I'd give it a 6/10 overall so far. If it wasn't a gift, knowing what I know now, I wouldn't pay full price for the system. I'd be more comfortable around $200.

I got mine two years ago and I'm extremely disappointed. It has so few games I'm interested in. If I wanted to play the ports I'd have played them on the systems they originally came out on. I played it a huge amount when I got it and Xenoblade 2 two years ago. Once I was finished that I basically didn't play it except for checking the store weekly until I was given a copy of Super Mario Odyssey last Christmas. After I finished that I again haven't used it except to check the store every week. According to the year in review, after I finished Odyssey, I used the system for a total of one hour in 11 months and that could just be rounding.
