What I mean to say is, regardless about your political affiliation and how you feel about trump or Republicans, what do you see as the Democratic strategy here of say a month from now Trumps popularity actually rises even further due to this Impeachment? He can legally run again regardless of the outcome. What plan B does the Democratic party have in place?

Of course if this kills his popularity then no plan is needed but obviously in politics as in life a backup plan is always necessary

He isn't getting more popular.

People voting for him in 2020 made their minds up in 2016. Independents have zero reason to support Trump

If he runs again, and is re-elected, my guess is a portion of dem voters will riot.

I though that was the plan honestly. 2020 just became one big one big case of pure character assassination with one side going " how can you vote for someone impeached that got off due to party loyalty" vs "how can you vote for the party that used impeachment for a minor offense as a tool to try and vilify a political rival that was doing well by many metrics."

Some much for the issues

I'm not saying he is of course, I'm just asking what the backup plan is?

Voting to impeach could be seen more as the democrats attempt to rally their own base just before the 2020 elections rather than a legitimate effort to get Trump out of office. Because the odds of the latter happening are practically zero.

Impeachment doesn't seem to be a big issue on the campaign trail among Democratic presidential candidates. It comes up at debates, but most of those discussions are about healthcare policy.

Also, plan B, if he wins re-election, is probably to impeach him again when dems have more seats and repubs can't acquit via senate.

Coz 100% of the candidates support impeachment. There isn't anything for them to debate about

There is no reality in which Democrats control a supermajority of the Senate and Trump isn't already out of office. Even Democrats are smart enough to know that.

Jumping the gun a bit. 20 Republican votes needed on top of all democracts in the Senate. Republicans are not going to to turn against him

Are you saying he has 0% chance to win reelection or that they couldn't secure the majority under his 2nd term?

More that any reality in which enough people vote for democrat senators to give them the majority is a reality where the president will also be a democrat.
