You can tell that they just wanted to show off their fancy sound tech with that narrated opening line. The game was secondary.

I've only ever played 10 minutes at most into the original Metroid.

Playing through Zero Mission, I have no idea how anyone would have fun playing through the original version.

you know, I've played through NES Metroid dozens of times but only finished Super Metroid maybe once or twice

I'm not really a fan of the control scheme, if it was more like Zero Mission's it'd be perfect.
Here's hoping those Switch remake rumors come to fruition

The movement is significantly worse and there is too much "go here, do this" instead of actual exploration. There is only ever a single correct path to take to advance.

It does have some fantastic boss fights though, but overall it is a much worse game.

The 2D Metroids all have awful garbage control.

Still great games but you can't throw around words like "perfect" when the very most basic way you interact with the game is abysmal.

This is an illusion in Super Metroid. People think that back tracking means open world which means more freedom which is false. The main difference between Fusion and Super was the fact that you were told where to go in Fusion and you weren't in Super so that notion of not having a guide tricked yall into thinking there is more freedom.

Super Metroid is perfect.

It's a great game and very fun. I can go back and replay at anytime but it's definitely overrated.

It's because of SM that people aren't able to properly appreciate Fusion. SM is a legendary game for sure but because Fusion wasn't an exact copy of SM people hated Fusion. Fusion went the route of evolving the plot, character development and magnifying the horror aspect of the game and it went highly underappreciated and this triggers me greatly.

Fusion was a great game. It wasn't what people wanted from a Metroid game, which I can understand, but as its own thing or a fresh take or whatever, it's a really cool game.

I played Fusion before Super so I didn't have that baggage going into it, and I loved it, lol.

Wrong. Super Metroid rewards exploration by offering multiple paths through the game even without sequence breaks, plus multiple tiers of available sequence breaks to open up even more paths through the game.

I have minimal experience with Fusion so I can't offer original analysis, but if it really is linear and it lacks sequence breaks then that's why old school Metroid fans dislike it.

There's literally nothing about Zelda 1 that's better than LTTP.

Not a single thing.

Don't get me wrong, I love the whole Zelda series but the first game will always be my favorite.
I wouldn't be the person I am today without it (although maybe that's not such a good thing, lol)

I mean it's pretty close to being perfect within it's genre. Only Metroidvania I can think of that I think is better is Hollow Knight. You are right about Fusion though, it's a damn treasure even if it is a bit linear. Still think Super is better though.
