On principle alone, if I'm taking the time off, then I'd use a vacation day.

But if it's not your thing, then fuck that noise. It's one thing if you're actually working and they can use your help, but if it's just a party don't sweat it.

Make up something and don't bother going. I doubt folk want a party pooper around anyway.

How large is the company you work for? Is attendance at the party mandatory?
Can you work all day then skip the party?

... that noise.

'kay, 'kay. I got a project that needs working on, but I will see if I can just postpone it for Friday. I was not given a deadline for it.

Good observation--one that I could not have made on my own.

At most one-hundred employees, about thirty were invited.

No.

They'll just keep inviting me even though I didn't chip in for the food, because they know I don't eat lunch at work and rarely rest.

I thought you couldn't decide for yourself based on this topic being made so I'm happy I helped out. It's just best for everyone that you give it a miss.

If you don't want to go just say you have plans during the party. What time is it?
Show up to work though.

Couple of my coworkers very conveniently go on vacation when we have these things.
I just go and have an anxiety attack and leave.
