This ends the season, and stuff sure happened.

Not sure how I feel about it, honestly. Maybe I called a few too many things.

I'm cool with how it ended. All things said I really liked it, wonder if they'll do season 2.

Well the good news is they don't have to. That ended pretty definitively honestly. Maybe it's a little too derivative of the original work, but hey what isn't a little derivative these days.

Y'know what one thing I did like was the idea of "rejection of masks". Both Ozy and Reeves talked down to the idea of masks. Ozy gave one of the Phillips a mask specifically to make him cruel, and Reeves realized his mask just kept trapped his hurt and fear.

not sure how much i like how neatly wrapped up everything was but i think it was thematically consistent for sure. like stuff like adrian getting arrested was a bit out of the blue but totally makes sense in context.

i also like how they managed to end on an ambiguous note in any case

I thought it was a great show and a pretty good ending. I think they wrapped everything up a little too neatly, compared to the comic where not only does the "villain" win in the end, but you could even argue what he did was right. The show ended just a little too black and white for me, the good people were good, the bad people were bad, that was it.

Still, as a huge fan of the original comic, this was as good of a show as I could have hoped for.

I dont like how self contained it all was. Like where do they go from here with the next season? Are they going to do introduce more giant conspiracies?

I think they should have held off on Dr. Manhattan until a later season. And making him the secret husband of the main character just further convoluted the story. But its supposed to be okay because thermodynamic miracles.

Honestly as I process the finale I get more and more upset that Ozymandias' arc basically ends like a Three Stooges skit.

lol yeah that is not sitting well with me either... seems kind of randomly thrown in there that "Now we will punish Veidt!"

the veidt stuff was pretty slapdash but I think it makes total sense thematically in the context of the show, that this artificial peace based on deception and fear, and the architect of same, is bad. that trusting in people and our processes is a good ideal to hold. i think there's also a point being made about the 'wrong' characters being heralded as epic badasses a la rorschach in the original comics.

people can complain it's not the 'same' as the original but...why would it be? why should it be? 30 years on and the peace manipulated by veidt is bursting at the seams. even he sees that. another broadly nihilistic, gotcha ending only perpetuates that cycle again.

Also didn't that Senator tell Looking Glass that he was 'using the dumb racists for something bigger' (he worded it another way but yall get it, iirc he said something demeaning about the racists) only for the finale to show that the 'something bigger' was just racist shit? I feel like that was a good opportunity to make that character more complex and they kinda fumbled it.

probably specifically meant becoming a god rather than becoming president

also i think it's perfectly in character to think of the grunts as being dumb racists but think of the higher ups in cyclops as ubermensch

It answered all the questions I wanted answered and it asked it few questions that will be fun to think about (similar to how the graphic novel left things somewhat open-ended, for the reader to imagine how the story might continue). There were a couple of fan theories I liked better but this was a satisfying conclusion.

10/10 season

Just seems like a missed opportunity imo. Everything ended up being very cut and dry, this group is obviously good and these other groups are obviously bad. Coming off of the source material it feels a lot lesser. I guess it is partially my fault to expect something in the same vein though.

They could have done a better job explaining the racial policies under President Redford. For almost the entire season I thought the white supremacists were mad over one simple instance of reparations.

Like seriously is the kkk going to start suicide bombing themselves over some federal money being given away?

I thought it ended well and they wrapped up all the threads well too.

I felt Dr. Manhattan being such as a romantic at the end was a bit out of character, since the whole reason he and Laurie broke up was because he continued to care less and less about relationships the longer he was a god, and now all the sudden he's like "third time's the charm!" But the writing for him the last two episodes was so great that I'm definitely willing to just go with it.
