Been paying all the bills including rent, hospital bills, etc. I'm down to like 3k in my bank account, total. Fortunately my wife is at 20k. I can pick up some extra shifts that will put me in a surplus, cuz right now I'm in a deficit. I just need to sustain for another 2.5 years until I get a well paying job. I need to calculate my deficit and see if 20k will last me 2.5 years. She's been out of work cuz of the baby.

I'd estimate I'm at like a 500-1k deficit every month. So I could probably last about 2 years or so if my wife decided not to work and we keep up with how much we're spending. We have a joint account as well with another 8k in there.

Its just a race to the finish until I can finish my medical training and get a high paying job with a big bonus and relocation expenses paid for.

While not quite "broke", the value of $3k sitting in your checking account would depend on what your monthly expenses are and your living situation. The $3k by itself frankly doesn't matter.

I'd be in a bit of a panic if I somehow had $3k in my checking as it won't even cover a month of bills.

$3k in my checking won't even cover a month of bills for me.

True but for me, $3,000 would be very low even without having bills. I don't think I've been as low as $3,000 since early 2009.

idk, like 3k is still decent amount of money but at the same time 3k isn't enough if something really bad happens to you. maybe like an injury that forces you to stop working for a few months

i guess that's the mindset tc had when calling himself poor, because I agree with him tbh
