It's so hard explaining to someone that they don't actually want what they are asking for.

It says right here in Matthew 16:4 "Jesus doth not need a giant Mecha."

Thought from the title this would be about setting minimum standards for encryption of user data. Guess I shouldn't have been so optimistic

Since it's the senate and not the house, I was thinking that this might be an effort to distract from the impeachment. *crosses fingers*

"we want access to your data to form a database to sell to Insurance companies and medical companies"

Ten movies streaming across that, that Internet, and what happens to your own personal Internet? I just the other day got... an Internet was sent by my staff at 10 o'clock in the morning on Friday. I got it yesterday. Why? Because it got tangled up with all these things going on the Internet commercially. They want to deliver vast amounts of information over the Internet. And again, the Internet is not something that you just dump something on. It's not a big truck. It's a series of tubes.

Making a backdoor for the government is essentially making every device be out on easy mode for Hackers and the like(and ironically enough would probably make government devices more vulnerable too)

Is catching a handful of terrorists and child porn consumers worth basically destroying digital privacy/security and further enpowering the police state?

I'm just going to say that it's certainly not just about catching terrorists of people with child porn. The government would certainly love to have an easy way to spy on its citizens.

Well yeah. Thats why I have the empowering the police state as a negative in post.
