Oh man, I have very fond memories of playing Pokemon RSE on my GBA. Still honestly my favorite generation, and the wild pokemon music is a banger:

Best handheld system I've ever owned I had a few dozen games for it by the end of its life span, lots of great memories from that time.

Mario kart super circuit was a special one to I use to play the local multiplayer with some friends in high school.

I did have a GBA, but barely. I had all of two games for it, some shitty half-pipe skateboarding game and some Power Rangers beat 'em up. I didn't particularly like either of 'em so I stopped playing after a while. So instead of getting me actual good games, my dad just sold 'em all. Still a little salty about that tbh, I missed out on so much good shit cause of that. >_>

I have a regular GBA; never upgraded to an SP as a kid, but I do have one now. I don't know how I ever played games without a backlight.

My favorite memory might be laying out on my trampoline and playing Boktai. Never did finish that game though. Favorite game might be Pokemon Sapphire; it was the last Pokemon game I really enjoyed until Shield.

The Metroids are particular favorites of mine. It was amazing how we hadn't had a Metroid game (let alone a good one) in a few years, then 4 came along at once (including the Primes on the GC). Fusion maybe wasn't exactly what I was looking for, but it's nonetheless a damn good game.

Aside from the usual, Legacy of Goku II and Buu's Fury are great, along with Super Robot Taisen Original Generation 1/2 (and the JP-only Super Robot Wars A) and the Mega Man Battle Networks (2, 3 and 6 being my favorites).

What little I played of Mega Man Zero I liked. I'm looking forward to the Zero / ZX collection next year.

Favorite games...

Well, the obvious one I post in topics: Tactics Ogre Gaiden - The Knight of Lodis. Doesn't get as much credit or attention as FFTA, and definitely isn't as cutesy, but it's a solid adventure and has a fun system where you change classes by earning in-game emblems (feats of excellence). Might be one of the easier entries in the franchise, but in a day and age where TO isn't super popular, it's fun to revisit occasionally. On the plus side, there aren't any judges/laws to worry about, so FFTA fans can breathe a sigh of relief there!

Golden Sun 1 & 2 come to mind, too. They're not viewed that favorably nowadays, but GS2 delivered a decent handheld adventure with scope. I would say it still holds up fairly well, except maybe in a few middling categories its predecessor also had (namely dialogue). Traveling around looking for rogue djinn, finding special swords with new effects, changing classes, grinding for special loot...yeah, it hit a lot of notes I like. I should also mention that I was fond of Air's Rock, too, so maybe I'm just a masochist. =)

Some other games I liked but don't feel like typing paragraphs about: some of the Megaman Battle Network games; Advance Wars 1 & 2; Pokemon Ruby & Emerald; Tales of Phantasia (...don't look at me like that); Zone of the Enders FOM; Broken Sword SOTT (damn, it looks ugly now, huh?); Breath of Fire; Harvest Moon FOM.

And, of course, one of the best things about GBA was that you could play older GB games, too. Definitely got more mileage out of Monopoly, Mole Mania, etc. than I would've otherwise.

My PS2 was the first system I bought with my own money, but I can truly say the Game Boy Advance was the first one I actually bought with my first real job. I had one of those atomic purple launch ones, with Castlevania Circle of the Moon and Super Mario Advance.

After a few years, I traded that one in to buy a GBA SP NES Edition, which I still own. However, I did buy a GBA SP 101 model, just so I could swap the guts with my 001 model. That improved backlighting is fucking huge.

I still have all my games, CIB. Some real good ones in there. I'm impressed I actually kept them as good as they are. Helps that they are effectively GameBoy games, which are easier to store and maintain than Super Nintendo and NES.

Once you learn to dodge in a circle, you pretty much can't lose, but it didn't even matter because it ruled anyway lol.

It was great for me personally for two reasons.

One was it felt like a portable successor to the SNES, which is one of my favorite consoles. It similarly had the same sound and graphical style, which was really nostalgic.

The second was the Metroidvania genre really started flourishing on it. Metroid and SotN were two of the best games I played, and both of those series really delievered.

I should also give props to Astro Boy Omega Factor. I know next to nothing about Astro Boy or anything by Osamu Tezuka, but it's one of the best action side-scrollers I've ever played.
