It wasn't even mine. Some asshat that was too lazy to throw their own trash away left their trashbags and pizza boxes outside my door last night framing me instead and now I'm getting fined. What a bullshit policy, it's so easily exploitable by assholes like that.

I talked to the complex and argued it wasn't mine. Stuff like I've lived here a few years now without issue and no one is dumb enough to leave trash outside their own door with such a policy in place anyways when they could just pin it on their neighbor. They basically told me to go fuck myself, and that I should have thrown it away myself even if it wasn't mine, despite me not knowing it was there and that being something I shouldn't have to do regardless.

They also claimed the fine is there as a "disposal fee" for cleaning it up but they didn't even throw the trash away themselves? And when I mentioned that they were just like "well you better clean it up if you don't want to get fined again the next time the inspector comes". Fine, but it this happens again I'm just gonna hot potato it because this is bullshit and I'm not gonna become the community trash man.

I did sorta look through it, but it was mostly just beer cans and some random food waste. Live in a college town near a buncha other students so it was probably just party remains they didn't feel like disposing of

my only complaint about apartment is lack of affordable housing options based on income (it's a one size fit all) with none for the lower income peeps. thankfully all my landlord wants is a monthly money order for rent and to avoid taking my dog to the backyard area of the complex.

also to note: it's one of the few places that allow large breed dogs.

We insisted on punishing slumlords, and thus the flophouses and slums essentially vanished.

My upstairs neighbor is trash and likes to throw his garbage off his balcony into the back area. It lands all in front of my porch since he is directly above me and it looks like it's mine.

i'm in agreement on that but the contract that he signed ie the lease dictates what is/what isn't allowed. even if it meant a clause saying "you can have garbage on your doorstep" or else it would be fined.

he could say "fuck the landlord" but then he could face repercussions in the form of eviction and civil court.

If you don't mind having to move somewhere else you could take them to small claims court or make a complaint with um...whatever government organization thingy that some other poster probably knows the proper name of. There may be something in the lease about no garbage outside your door, but if it isn't your garbage, if you didn't put it there, and you may not have known it was there at the time since not everyone looks out their door 24/7, there probably is some way you could fight this and win. Just be advised your lease probably wouldn't be renewed then, but if they're going to treat you like that you probably shouldn't live there if you can help it.

If its in the lease that you can be fined for having garbage outside your door and you signed the lease then it is what it is
