She is a solid wall with a scary axe, for once, an opportunity to put in a major character that isn't known for having a sword. I mean, the other two leaders could work too, since Dimitri has a lance, and Claude has the bow, but Edelgard is by far the most popular of the 3. Also, we could always use more females in Smash and she'd be the first totally original female FE character (considering Robin/Corrin are male/female and Lucina is a Marth clone in the game). Of course, the level of anger that she would bring by existing in Smash would also be funny.
