Life would be better without unchecked police and for profit prisons

For profit prisons have little incentive to rehabilitate and reduce rates of reoffending, and every incentive to lobby for mandatory minimum sentences

You're describing most of the middle east, where tribal leaders arbitrate angry mobs throwing accusations at people with no real means of defending themselves and executions are a family affair.

I'll take police and prisons over that.

It should go without saying that if you have to have a police presence, it should consist entirely of people who care about the people of the neighborhood they're working in. Too often the police are just literal hired goons who's purpose is to harass normal people without consequence; they're just foreign agitators protected by a malicious government.
