I picked one up years later because I was fascinated by the simplicity and technology

Never had one. I know that my mom had an Atari as a child, but I don't know if it was the 2600. I've also never felt the desire to add one to my collection because it seems so primitive.

My first console. It seems primitive now, but it opened all the doors back then. Loved Adventure.

I played a few plug-n-play consoles and game collections.

Had an Atari for a little while from a yard sale but we could never get it to work lmao.

I liked a lot of the old Activision games. Those were tons of fun.

My dad had one as a young man, and we still have it lying around. I've played it a couple of times, but after playing the SNES for most of my young life, it felt...lacking.

My brother found one at a garage sale in like the mid 80s. 1985 maybe

Played it until we got a NES around like 88 or so

I had one, it was the sleeker new model, as opposed to the wood-grained model.
My friends down the street had the wood grained model before us.
And I convinced my dad to buy us one for Christmas.

With the exception of the pong machine we had, it was my first proper console.

I remember using index cards to write down high scores, so my bros and friends could keep track of who had the highest scores.

Edit also I remember taking off the rubber on the joysticks leaving the white plastic stick.
And also that they worked with the Commodore computers of the day.

We had the wood grained one. IIRC it was even real wood. Imagine that!

My very first console was a 2600.

^This.

Also, I could use the Atari 2600 joystick on my Sega Genesis. Were those two consoles made by the same people?

Never owned an original release 2600, but I do have a Flashback.

Some of the games were cool. Fatal Run, Atari Climber, Adventure, Missile Command, Star Strike, Jungle Hunt, Save Mary, Yar's Revenge, all great games. But most of them I had a hard time figuring out how to even play lol.

Yep, very first system I started out on. Adventure, Haunted House, and Pitfall were among my faves that we owned at the time.

It wasn't? I don't recall it being plastic, but it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.

Ya, it was plastic. But that's cool.
That's how we remember things from Childhood sometimes.
I remember Snow piles that felt like mountains at the time.
