Bull on anyone claiming 2 and up didn't scare them but 6 did.

6 didn't even make me flinch and I am a pansy. Verdugo, the dog maze, and that one sewer section in 4 still make me break out in a cold sweat.

I've definitely softened on it over the years. A large part of why I hated it so much initially was honesty the camera more than anything. So dizzying and disorienting. When I bought it again on Xbox One it still took some getting used to but it did feel a lot better. It's not a good RE title, but it's an extremely solid action game and I've always said that its Mercs mode really shines, since there's no pretense of horror or plot to get in the way. It's a god damn thrill to dash and slide and dodge everywhere, or just tear through with Jake's melee moves. And the quick shot, why isn't this feature in more games?

Personally, my favorite campaign was Jake. How can any RE fan deny the awesomeness of the son and daughter of Wesker/Birkin teaming up together? Or getting hunted down by Nu-Nemesis? Jake and Sherry's bond by the end really got to me and I just thought the whole thing was so well done. Chris and Piers really had a solid through line too, though maybe messier on the game play side of things.

RE6 isn't an amazing game, but I still found it to be a good time. I remember a lot of the colmplaints seemed to center around the QTEs and the plot which came across as though people had somehow conveniently forgotten RE4 and RE5 to take a crap on 6.

The new combat mechanics are what made RE6 enjoyable to me. If they weren't aware of or didn't engage with them though, I can see how people would have a bad time with the game.

There were certainly some poorer sections of the game (mainly the driving sequences come to mind), but if you were down to play RE as an action game, most of it was pretty decent.

It's mostly dumb, bland, but semi-tolerable bullshit if you have a second player and ignore the story.

It's a drink coaster if you don't.

Weirdest thing, I was thinking about RE6 yesterday for the first time in a while

It was OK. I was waiting for it to become "The Worst Game Of All Time" like I'd been promised, and it never did. It was basically "fine" the whole way through, though I was less of a fan of the Ada and Chris scenarios.

It was a game that focused on shooting action and all the shooting and movement felt worse than 4/5...it just doesn't have a reason to exist. There's no scenario where you wanna play an old RE game in that mold and say "yeah, RE6 is the one". Everything is worse, maybe not horrible but worse. It's pointless.

The setpieces are killer though

I definitely enjoyed it a lot more on my second playthrough many years later.

Similar to what Snake said, the expectations weren't there as I already knew what it was and wasn't.

Resident Evil 6 is hands down the most underrated game I have ever played and nothing comes even close
I came in expecting Sonic 2006 level of bad, but instead I got not just a "not bad" game, but rather I got a actually very enjoyable one

And as someone that played every single (non-mobile) Resident Evil game this year, let me say this-

1.Resident Evil games were never scary

2.Ever since RE4 and up until REV2 the games turned into full-action games, so whatever problems you have with 6 by saying "it's not a Resident Evil game!" you can say the same about 4, 5, REV1 and REV2
Sure, enemies never shoot you back in other RE games(besides that minigun dude) like they do in Chris's scenario which is just pure action- FPS type of game, but still!

3.Whether you like it or not, you can't ignore the fact - Resident Evil 6 is the RE game with most effort put into it. 4 Different campaigns, each with their own gameplay style and scenario (there are only like 2-3 times that you actually do something you already did in previous campaign)
Has the most cutscenes of every game, most enemy types, most amount of bosses and longest game to complete

The only real problem I have with this game and people don't even comment on it is that the game feels a little too "scripted"
It isn't a problem in the first time you play it, but if you replay it for whatever reason, you realize that the boss you shot and wasted so much ammo on before - doesn't require getting hit, as it's a timed event and after awhile the battle will just continue to the next phase
Also, things like Ada car chase while playing as the one with the machine gun - you don't even need to do anything, you don't need to shoot the cars (at least on Easy..)

I disliked 5 so much that 6 seemed like too much of a chore to even try.

I've watched about three hours worth of Leon's scenario and the Left 4 Dead style waves of enemies was really off-putting and not really what RE is about IMO

Man this is so reductive to RE4 and how much the overall presentation of it mattered.

Chris is such a generic boring joke loser compared to the God that is RE4 Leon.

Also downplays just how much worse the forced co-op makes RE5 if you aren't actually playing with another person.

Comparing solo play between each, RE5 isn't even half the game RE4 is.

The gameplay is good though. Fucking sucks that your perks are mostly shit. Wasn't scary and had shit sections, but gameplay was solid most of the time.
