I always prefer takeout anyways. Often if I'm out and csnt go home, I rather take out and eat in my car.

The only exceptions is at the airport or hotel, or if it's a diner that's empty.

When I was traveling for work I got used to eating alone in restaurants. Eat my food while reading a book on my phone. Good times.

On Veterans Day, all the meals were for dine-in... For most places. So, I did Dine-in. I went to one place with my SO, but he was busy that night. So, I went to 2 restaurants by myself. Service was actual great at the first place. But they also werent very busy. My waiter was a pretty cool guy. And we had a nice conversation. I do understand why some people feel its weird, but it really isnt that bad.

This is very true. Ive seen many people eating alone at restaurants at the bar. And if youre even somewhat social, you may be able to have a conversation with someone there. And then youre not really alone anymore...

This isn't a real thing, this is just a phobia or anxiety that you need to accept is irrational and work to overcome.

It's like getting too anxious to use public restrooms. What are you afraid of? People will hear you peeing? Like, I get HAVING the anxiety, that happens. Brains aren't perfect. But don't act like it's rational to have this fear. The first step is to recognize the absurdity of being enslaved to these feelings. Only then you can free yourself from your irrational fears and grow into a person you'd rather be.

If you care that much about it, then dress business casual and pretend you are on a business trip. Even though I'm married, I travel a lot so I'll end up eating out by myself if I didn't travel with any colleagues. It's usually after a conference or business meeting so I'm either in a full suit or some business casual attire. I usually strike up a conversation and I tell them I'm travelling and if there are any local places to recommend I visit while I'm in town. Usually they'll love talking about where they live with a traveler and overall it's a good time.

Now, that's assuming you are willing to pretend to be traveling for a meal. If not, just go during the lunch rush. Most people who work will grab a quick bite to eat at a restaurant by themselves during the lunch hour so no one bats an eye. Moreso at places like Panera or Chiptotle but I'll occasionally see them at sit-down places too.

I mean, I guess that makes some sense. Though, I dont think it was ever a private thing. At school, people usually eat in a large group. Depending on your home life, lots of families eat together for a meal or more. Many people go out to restaurants together. And even in older times, I think people would eat in groups... I think...
