Poll of the Day > man, i don't know if going back to grad school is for me

i do want to be librarian and i really want to get out of my current career path

but my job isn't bad, it pays well and it's interesting. i just don't want to handle insurance claims and sit in a cubicle all day for the rest of my life.

but grad school is like.. so time consuming and there's a lot of excess work. a lot of the readings are superfluous and it just seems pointless.

well, as long as i'm in good company lmao. on the plus side, there's no thesis in this program just a program eportfolio where you do 3 short reflection papers at specific points in the program. there is an internship though which is going to be difficult for me because i work full time and i'm really low energy but i'll power through.

You have all my reasons for not returning to school. I'm in a career where I either keep doing what I'm doing or go a more admin route. I could expand my options with a master's or PhD.

But fuck grad school and all the bullshit that comes with it.

I honestly have no desire to go to grad school.

But idk what Im doing when it comes to school lol. Im on track to graduate with only an Associates next year and Ill be 32. Maybe if I was younger.

I'm 39 and I have a classmate who is in their 50's in my "graduating" class. No reason to think you're too old already

I felt out of place when I started my PhD program in 2014 and like it was pointless and I was the stupidest person there. I mastered out in 2017, worked a job for a year until I realized I needed to get back I to my field, and now I'm going back into the same PhD program (working in a different lab of course) in the spring of 2020 because it turns out it was the best path after all.

Dont psyche yourself out, don't let other people psyche you out, etc. You can do it and it will be worth it. Just persist and you'll do good things.
