Third game is rough but still fun if you enjoy the series.

Still feel the first was the best. It sorta mirrors how I feel about the Arkham games where the first game was very "contained" but memorable experience and the second game built on and improved a lot of things from the first game, but lost some of what made the game great by moving to a more open-world experience.

I think the more linear design of the first games helps move the narrative along and keeps the pace more even. You don't get sidetracked by sidequests and exploring, which can be fun but can also distract from the overall storytelling.

All that said, Arkham City and Darksiders II are supremely enjoyable, great games. But the entry games to the series' are more focused experiences, and the subsequent games (Origins/Knight, and DS III) are weaker but still enjoyable. My humble opinion.

I'm interested in how Darksiders Genesis plays. The top-down hack-and-slash style is appealing but I'm not sure if it will deliver what I want in a Darksiders game.

What do you mean the third game is rough btw? Like it's glitchy or something? 2 seems way less polished than the first, frame drops and lag. I'm never one to notice that kind of stuff really

Interesting timing.

After seeing the reveal for Darksiders Genesis, I decided to replay the entire series. Just started Darksiders 2 last night. I love the game!!! The big map, areas, all the little secrets....extremely satisfying.

And I LOVED Darksiders 3. It felt like Metroid Prime has a baby with The Legend of Zelda. The only thing mildly annoying was how you couldn't rush through the areas too fast, because it would have to buffer the maps. You know?

But when you took your time, explored every nook and cranny, the game ran fine. And Fury is super fun to play as. Everything had really solid design behind it. Especially the bosses and weapons.

I also never got around to playing all the DLC for Darksiders 3, so I'm really looking forward to it.

It was very buggy at launch, though I was able to finish the game. Pretty sure they've patched it since but not sure what state the game is in now. I also remember it being very familiar territory. Like, it felt like a throwback, or even a holdover from a bygone era. The graphics were unimpressive, and they introduced a sort of Dark Souls-lite feel to the game which I hated (and I like Dark Souls).
