Maybe it has something to do with the reason that I didn't even know this movie even existed in the first place until like a week ago: their advertisers for the movie if they even had any are fucking incompetent at raising awareness let alone interest.

I dunno tbh. She's a great actress in general. Maybe carryover from Twilight, even though both her and Robert Pattinson have proven themselves as legitimate actors since then.
I've been saying that for years.

Nobody hates Twilight more than those two.

It's this, really.

People really dislike those films and they both were god awful in it, even if intentionally so or just from lack of care. So opinions being opinions, they are firmly entrenched in thoughts on a film they likely never saw.

She should have been. Tom Hardy's character should have been the feral child from the second movie. (Teased in the movie, but denied by the filmmakers.) And Furiosa should've been the star.

1. Nobody wanted another Charlies Angels movie
2. I very much doubt that action fans like any of these actresses
3. Elizabeth Banks was talking about how this movie was written with #metoo in mind months ago which poisoned the well
4. There was hardly any fucking advertising. I saw the trailer in theaters but that was it. The trailer was fucking ass as well.

But yeah, just blame incels. Make sure you decide on if they are scary or just pathetic this week first, though.

Also I have no idea why people are upset that this bombed. It's a Sony picture, right? That just means one more nail in the coffin so they can sell Spider-Man to precious Disney/Marvel.

Why?

And she is the main character. She's the main focus of the movie. It's more her story than Max's. Max is the vehicle of the story and we follow him, but he's not what the movie is about really. It's Furiosa's story.

It's like The Road Warrior. The movie is about the gas town people escaping Lord Humongous and his gang. Max is just along for the ride pretty much.

People love getting angry at women who have opinions for some reason. Hmmmmmm.

The movie was marketed like shit which is a big part of why it didnt do well. But where does she actually single out men and blame them? She doesn't. She is trying to start a bit of a discussion and everyone acts like she is some man hating bitch out to suck out their souls.

People aren't angry because she's female, nor is her effort to make a "talking point" even a good one.

Both her opinion and "talking point" are moronic as people have loved well made action films with female leads, what people dislike are badly made ones - coupled with being poorly marketed, it was destined to tank hard.

A bad film doing badly isn't going to stop people liking action films with female leads, there are several which people regularly cite as some of the best action films ever. Directors should look to them to see what it was that drew people to enjoying them.

Did you see the movie? I haven't I have no idea if it is good. It is definitely marketed badly. But women led action movies doing badly definitely makes execs and the people in charge of deciding what movies get made less likely to want to make more like that.

There is a long standing bias against action movies led by women. I agree her saying comic book movies are a "male genre" is kind of silly. But until recently they didnt even really want to make the women focused comic book movies. Especially around anything that sells merchandise because they don't think action figures and whatever of girl characters will sell.

While there have been successful action movies with female leads, usually they aren't the focus of marketing or merchandising. Mad Max is still called Mad Max, and that is what people expect going in. It turned out to be a feminist movie with a great female lead, but that isnt what they were selling to executives and the public.

Female lead action movies are the exception. There is nothing wrong with wanting more of them to succeed.

You can disagree with some things she says and realize she is still right about other things.

Women were not watching her movie ether. She needs to just stop. The movie was bad, the advertising was bad. It didn't draw people in. No one wanted to even see the movie.

It doesn't matter who the target audience is if you can't draw anyone in.

Nope, I wasn't even aware it existed until recently and I rarely see films as it is anyway. Not even out until next week here anyway, but doubt I'd see it regardless.

And I stand by the fact female action films can do perfectly well, they just need to actually make it a good film. Have a badass woman doing badass things. Have been plenty in recent times that manage to do it, so one film doing poorly is hardly going to change anything.

While we dont know why or how the marketing was handled poorly, I wouldn't be surprised if people behind the scenes already expected it to fail and didnt want to market it as much as they could have.

Or maybe because her opinion is generalizing bullshit and a lie. Did you ever think of that? Lots of people enjoy a good action flic with men and women in it.

By the way, your "Long standing bias against women in action films" is also generalizing bullshit.

I recall Wonder Woman doing pretty well. X-Men has a well balanced cast of bad-asses. The Alien movies are top tier sci-fy flicks. The Star Wars series has always had strong women in it. Terminator 2. Willow has two women that are kick ass antagonists. And it goes on and on.

He's in the movie's title. He's credited before she is. He wins the fight the two of them have. The camera follows him when she's off-screen. She does kill the the main villain, but Max has a history of not being the one to directly do-in the bad guy. He may be the "vehicle" for the movie, but calling Furiosa the star of the movie is like saying that the Scarecrow is the star of Wizard of Oz.

She's right though. For every successful female-led, non-comic book action movie there's like a dozen mediocre male-led movies that do just as well.

I mean, did we really need 3 Expendables movies?

Addendum: The new Charlie's Angels can look like shit AND female-led action movies have to clear a higher bar in order to be successful. Both those things can be true.

I get what you're saying, but it seems like the real issue is making a action movie for females when its male-dominant fan base. The opposite situation would have the same result probably, a rom-com (female-dominant fanbase) where they switch focus to the opposite gender would likely do poorly. I doubt the director of that movie would start implying a conspiracy against male rom-coms.

Bitch apparently forgot she played in Hunger Games, an action film with a female lead.

But also conveniently acts as if other action movies with female leads never happened:

Alien series
Tomb Raider (including the reboot
Resident Evil
Atomic Blonde
Underworld
Kill Bill
Million Dollar Baby

Just to name a few.
