Current Events > Which franchise has more good games, Sonic or Mega Man?

Just want to see what the general consensus is. Vote based on which one has more games that are consistently good or whichever has more games that you like w/e.

You can include spinoffs like Sonic Racing if you want.
For Mega Man that is including all of the main series (Classic, X, Zero, ZX, Legends, Battle Network, Starforce)

I've never been a big Sonic fan and love Mega Man so Mega Man is the easy choice here. >_>

Some of the MM got into different game types that didn't interest me so I never played them, but I really enjoy the vast majority of classic and X Mega Man games. Even the ones that are usually considered awful I thought were not great and up to the series standards but were decent enough.

Quantity of good, not highest quality.

1, 2, 3K, 3D, CD, Adventure 1(DX), 2B, Mania,

There was one on Advance and one one DS that got decent reception, I think, though I can't remember the titles. If you include the spinoffs, Pinball and Mean Bean Machine, we get a grand total of 12. Better than I saw coming, feels like I'm missing a title.

Mega Man became rote in the original line, but the games always got good or decent reviews and reception, and fans love the recent demakes. You could easily say the whole 12 Mega Man titles are somewhere in the "good" category.

X1 and X2 put the Mona Lisa to shame, most people like X3 and 4, and I stopped paying attention after that. Either way, that's already more good games than Sonic.

Mega Man for sure. After the Classic series, the quality of Sonic's games are brought into question and are either of mixed opinion or bad in the fanbase.
Mega Man tends not to take as many risks unless they're making a new spin off series and as such playing it safe has lead to consistently great games, even if it does become tiring to long time fans marathoning(Which I think is a big reason why 4 and beyond don't stack up to Mega Man 2 for many people despite that game being rough around the edges). Mega Man has only three really bad games(X6, X7, Mega Man and Bass) in its long history, while Sonic can be a trainwreck half the time.

critics always mention the mega man games being too similar but it never bothered me. there's a reason we say if it's not broken, don't fix it. nintendo likes to experiment, even to never revisit a good idea they once had, but that doesn't mean everyone has to do things the nintendo way.

There's a larger number of good Mega Man games compared to Sonic but I agree with the sentiment that Sonic's peak is better than Mega Man's peak.

Sonic Mania and S3&K are better than any Mega Man game.

Mega Man games are fun, have good music, etc. but they aren't anything more than the sum of their parts.

Mega Man wins easily based on sheer quantity. They just cranked them out like Madden or COD back in the day.
But, like, Sonic 1 and Sonic CD are probably better than the median Mega Man game because no Mega Man series holds up for longer than four games at a time, it feels like. Both series have at least one game that was an unmitigated disaster and are now mostly mediocre-to-bad.

The percentage of good-to-great Mega Man games exceeds that of Sonic.

MM 2 through 5, 7, 8, Bass, 9, and 10 (haven't played 11)
MMX 1 through 4
MMZ 1 through 4
MMZX and ZX Advent
Battle Network 2, 3, and 6
StarForce series

And MMX Command Mission, despite being fairly average, is better than Sonic Chronicles.

There are good and bad games in both franchises. Personally I prefer MegaMan and I own several titles. I enjoyed Sonic Adventure 2 and some of the other 3D games. I have the Sonic Mega Collection for Gamecube, but I'm still trying to get into the 2D titles.

Mega Man is much more consistent.

Sonic has higher peaks, but Mega Man X is seriously good.

I actually feel like Sonic has better low points and lower high points, personally. Nothing in Sonic compares to X1, Zero 3, ZX1 or SF1, for example, but also nothing compares to X6 or X7 lol.

I made this account around the time that Sonic Adventure 2 was dropping on the Dreamcast. It's been a...bumpy road since then. Especially since the Zero series is brilliant, and the BioWare Sonic jrpg is the single biggest piece of garbage to come out of a major studio.

Megaman has like, a million games.

2-4 of the original series are all great. Which alone ties it with the Genesis Sonic games (or beats it, since most people have plebeian taste and hate on the original >_>) of course, 1, 5, and 6 are all also good so before Sonic even starts its playing at a -5 disadvantage.

Then X gave us three more great games on the SNES. Id argue most of the Game Gear games are good. Sonic 1,2,Chaos, Triple Trouble, and well count Tails Adventure and Sky Patrol.

Around this point the score evens out to Megamans 9 to Sonics 10. (Were counting S3 and K as two games because you had to pay for it twice >_>)

But Sonic took a massive dump during the 32 bit era, while Mega Man was consistently putting out more content. Megaman Legends 1 + 2, and X4 are all widely considered good without much controversy.

Megaman - 12, Sonic - 10

Then the PS2 era happened. Sonic got Adventure 1+ 2, as well as Advance 1 + 3.

Megaman got Zero 1-4, Battle Network 1-6, and X8.

Megaman - 23 Sonic- 14

Then the HD era.

Sonic got Colors, Generations, Rush 1 + 2, and well add on half a point for Unleashed.

Megaman got 9, 10, ZX + Advent. Idk about Starforce, but even if it wasnt as good as BN most people didnt seem to have a problem with it. So SF 1-3

Megaman - 30

Sonic - 18.5

Then this gen happened and Sonic got Mania, and well add in a half-point for the mobile ports of 1 and 2 because they were so damn well done. (Coincidentally, they all had the same guy behind them >_>)

Megaman got 11.

Megaman - 31, Sonic - 20.5

Theres some margin for error, but Megaman blew up on handhelds while Sonic remained relatively understated.

I would argue that with most of the handheld games, Sonic does have the better highs. MegaMan wins in consistency though.

Mega man 1-4, 7, 9 and 10 (8 didnt feel it for me)
Mega man x1-5, and i guess 8 (6 and 7 sucked. Couldn't enjoy the level designs in 6. I did enjoy the shadow armor)
Megaman zero 3 and 4 (gameplay for 1 and 2 just started slow for me and got my expectation high from x so i guess im biased on this one. but loved the story for this series.)
legends 1 and 2
Battle network 2, 3 and 6 (biased on which ones i enjoyed but 3 was my fav)
Starforce 1-3
MM ZX (couldnt get into advent)

So i guess it makes 24 games

Sonic chaos ( i havent played it since i was a kid but enjoyed it. Idk if its good today)

I guess it makes it makes 28 or sonic games
Everything else was average honestly.

Still enjoy both series. Despite both got their own bad games here and there.
