Nintendo of America has reportedly allowed customers to cancel their digital pre-orders for Pokemon Sword and Shield on the Nintendo eShop.

Redditor sQuBNsc26U9whKWJ, who was unhappy about the cuts in Pokemon Sword and Shield, requested to cancel their game and had their request approved. Nintendo approved the cancellation on the basis of the culling of Pokemon. Nintendo rarely allows cancellations for digital games the last time this happened was with Overwatch.

This is sensationalist inaccurate reporting. Nintendo allows you to return/refund games and preorders if you don't do it regularly. I've returned a digital game before and it was some random one I didn't like. They aren't doing this just for Pokemon.

The Pokemon games has had problems with cut content, barebones games, and a stale formula for a while now, especially in the 3DS era, but people put up with the games' unwillingness to advance because they could still use their Pokemon.

Sword/Shield is culling 60% of all past Pokemon, meaning you can't use them, period. When this was announced, Game Freak said it was so they could focus on delivering a high-quality game. Unfortunately, it's looking like Sword/Shield is more of the same, but with even less content and the lack of polish seen with other major Nintendo Switch titles. So people are wondering just what they lost so many Pokemon for if the rest of the game is not delivering on "quality".

While it makes sense "if you don't do it regularly" with refunding released games, since most other companies are the same.

It's extremely shitty to not allow pre-orders to be canceled before release on an unlimited basis.
