I think it looks good?
It interests me more than any gen since 5?

It's both nostalgic and a bit disconcerting to hear Pokemon still use their old scratchy dial-up cries from their original gens.

Still, can't wait.

it's really dumb that there's so much negativity.

1.) they don't have those super lame mega evolutions and the other gimmicks that made gen 6 and 7 wholly unappealing. Those giant Pokemon look lame, but the idea of multi-player raids sounds fun.

2.) half of the new Pokemon are much, much cooler than anything offered in gen 6 or 7.
the starters are probably the coolest starters ever, imo. most gens had maybe one or two cool starters and one absolute stinker. I like all three starters here.

3.) the Pokemon they KEPT in the dex were mostly the popular ones from media/the anime/etc. that are well known. I don't think they did a bad job just because they left out the legendaries, one or two popular evolution lines, and x random Pokemon that I care about but only about 10 other people do.

4.) the game looks gorgeous -- like almost as gorgeous as DQ11 gorgeous.

Speak for yourself, Mega Evolutions brought new life to a bunch of pokemon that needed it.

The game is $20 more with less than half the stuff the other games had.

I wasn't even as mad about the national dex, and agreed with their decision until I noticed Pokmon from Let's Go weren't in this game. They had the models and animations, they are just holding them back on purpose. I also didn't think there would only be 400 Pokmon. Also, speaking of which, the animations look cheap, we got N64 games with better animation than this. A lot of choices are dumb, forced xp share, etc.

I'm glad you enjoy mediocrity though, really, good for you. I know EA probably has a job available for you.

Compared to RBY, I guess. Not really an accomplishment to be better than the first game of the series.

To clarify my stance on starter designs:

Kanto:
Bulbasaur - awesome
Charmander - whatever. very uninspired
Squirtle - okay, I guess.

Johto:
Chikorita - lame af
Cyndaquil - lame af
Totodile - coolest starter ever.

Hoeen:
Treecko - ugly
Torchic - okay - but its evolutions are the most hideous Pokemon ever
Mudkip - okay, I guess. more of a meme. not cool, though.

Sinnoh:
Turtwig - okay, I guess.
Chimchar - okay, but its evolutions are ugly even compared to other starter evolutions
Piplup - cute. probably the second coolest starter after Totodile

Unova:
Snivy - definitely one of the cooler starters
Tepig - probably the coolest fire starter - but its evolutions are ugly
Oshawatt - okay.

Kalos:
Chespin - okay.
Fennekin - honestly one of the cooler starters
Froakie - cool, but suffers from the hideous evolutions - which is usually a fire issue.

Alola:
Rowlet - okay, I guess?
Litten - I want to like it, but it's ugly.
Popplio - okay, but it sounds like an Italian term of endearment.

Galar:
all three cool, like top 10 starters cool.

I like that there seems to be a theme of Pokmon battling being treated as a sport in this one.
