I'm not going to bother with the "mini-Kingdoms", if we can call them that. You know the levels I mean. I think the quality of the Kingdoms varied a lot, which kinda surprised me, since Mario games tend to have consistently very enjoyable worlds. Still some great stuff, though, of course. Well. Tell me what you think.

Excellent Tier

Sand Kingdom
Wooded Kingdom
Luncheon Kingdom

Very Good Tier

Bowser Kingdom
Lost Kingdom

Good Tier

Cascade Kingdom
Metro Kingdom

Okay Tier

Seaside Kingdom

Bad Tier

Lake Kingdom

Very Bad Tier

Snow Kingdom

I thought some of the Kingdoms were great fun. The Sand Kingdom had a great feel of wandering around in a large section of desert, with open spaces, but tons to do. I thought the Lost Kingdom was a very tightly designed world, with no filler content at all, and interesting use of high and low. It was smallish, but in a good way, you know? Metro Kingdom was enjoyable, but surprisingly disappointing. Don't get me wrong. It had plenty of good qualities. The graphics were superb, both in a technical sense, and an artistic sense. The use of NYC-style rooftops was also cool. But...the level was really small. I couldn't believe it. Also, a large percentage of the Kingdom was filled. I enjoyed the first 10 or 20 Power Moons, but then it was just annoying. Wtf.

Some of the Kingdoms were pretty annoying. I couldn't believe how boring and lifeless the Seaside Kingdom was. It was just too open. There was no challenge in getting anyway. You just swam out into the bay, and dived for items. Also, quite a lot of filler. The graphics were certainly very pretty, though, and I loved those water bubble creatures you could take over. Snow and Lake Kingdoms were pretty pathetic. Lake Kingdom was small and with pretty poor graphics. Snow Kingdom was awful. I don't know WHAT Nintendo were thinking, I really don't. It was just some open, snow valley, with almost nothing in it. I couldn't believe how boring it was. I've seen MUCH better snow levels than this, such as Cold, Cold Mountain in SM64, and the very good Freezey Peak in B-K. It was like it had been designed in under a week, and just thrown into the game, to make it longer. Dreadful.

Overall, though, I had a lot of fun with the Kingdoms in the game. It's just...surprising, how much they varied. Thoughts on all this? What do you think of my tiers? Any specific comments on Kingdoms?

Yes, its the best Mario game made imo (other people have differing opinions on this)

Also I would not say any of the kingdoms are bad, just less good

Even the water levels in this game are fun for example

It's not often these days that a Mario game sparks joy in me and reminds me why I love video games.

Odyssey did that. :)

I will agree that Sand Kingdom was definitely the best. Metro could be a little higher up though.

I agree that Lake/Seaside were both underwhelming

why make two water-based kingdoms and put no effort into making them interesting?
compare them with Luncheon, a lava-based kingdom that was very unique

Metro is my favourite, it's laid out in a way that means you're basically always doing something as you move around. My least favourite thing in 3D Mario games is pointless empty space dragging things out (64 was very bad about this, as are a few kingdoms in Odyssey), and Metro has next to none of it. You're always right next to something you can use to start jumping up onto the rooftops, and it's a lot of fun trying to figure out how many ways you can find to get to any given place.

Metro is S-tier.

Luncheon is like D-tier.

Also where is the Mushroom Kingdom? That's also S-tier.

>Metro two tiers below Luncheon

Why, though. Metro wins HARD on theme, on music, and on suitability for freeform platforming. Did you just dock Metro two tiers for jump rope or something?
