he was pretty old even in season 1 of survivor
he was apparently pretty homophobic before coming in and when someone told him some gay people were cast he wanted to find out who to get them voted out first

but he ended up really getting along with richard hatch the gay guy of the season and the 2 of them actually became allies and together made it all the way to the final 3 and richard became the first sole survivor

He was definitely entertaining. He was kind of open minded but also a prisoner of his time/age. I think he was probably a good guy to those in his life.

the pagong tribe felt that forming an alliance was unethical and the wrong way to play and votes should be cast based on who deserved to go home

where as richard hatch got sue, kelly and rudy to agree to an alliance so they always voted the same so they decided who went and got to advance further in the game.
colleen from pagong tried to get a counter alliance going to fight back but she was unable to and her and her entire tribe were voted out 1 by 1

I think they saved his memory by not allowing him back. Like I said, he was from a different time. People would of been on his ass for his choice of words in later seasons. You seen how awkward it was when they gave him a few sentences on the live show years later and he dropped a "queer".

Survivor season 1 is the best in the sense that you see a clearly openly homophobic old man become partners with an openly gay man and they genuinely like each other.

yeah sean did that so that no one would hate him if he was just voting alphabetically but that ended up making everyone hate him and think he was an idiot
he became a free 5th vote for the tagi 4 since they always knew who he was voting for

colleen spent a good time mocking him "sean says if it happens 1 more time then i know something is going on. but its already happened 3 times!"

i felt bad for colleen there, she had finally decided to ditch the "alliances are immoral" mindset that had screwed her tribe since the merge. she was ready to play and had all the pieces she needed to make a comeback and stop the tagi 4 from completely controlling the game
all she needed was to get sean to abandon his voting system and join them. and he didnt which screwed colleen out of a million.

sean was not the brightest bulb. "i don't understand, other than strategy there was no reason to vote off gretchen!"
